It fits! But I got to get some new bolts for the axle side connection. I think they are too rusty, they don't go in easy at all and I am afraid of snapping them - half way in they stop.  And no. Not cross threading them.

no they are pretty rusty. I am sure its a rust issue, they were what held in the old DS. I will just pick up new ones - and maybe chase the threads on the axle side as that probably has rust from sitting.

i have a 95 with a 5 speed, im digging this rig cuz im doing a dd/wheeler build myself. im interested in the hack n tap can u give me more info? the frt/rr driveshaft being the same length would be awesome, it wouldnt be hard to find one on the trail

Adam and I had early 90's jeeps with the 4.0L aw4 NP231 with PORC SYE and swapped in xj-44's from the late 80's.  This combination let you run the front shafts from an auto in the rear.  I had really good luck with it, only ever broke one driveshaft.  Broke many axle shafts though Smiley

I am still running a front shaft in the rear on mine.  Works like a champ, picked up two driveshafts for 40 bucks at the junk yard which gives me a interchangeable spare for the front or rear.  Cheap, easy and effective.
