Fire chicken looks nice, my only suggestion would be to address the ignition. Stock f-body's with the lt motor were notorious for ignition issues. Plenty of aftermarket upgrades available.

John indulge my intellect please.  What sort of issues with ignition are there.  I seem to havefound my first flaw.  My head lights powered down on their own so I thought it popped a fuse but there are no fuses blown.  Any ideas why they would now not flip up and turn on?  Even when I manually turn them up they don't light.  Kinda stumped. Any ideas?  I am going to test for power at the lamp end of the harbess as soon as the rain stops.  Ended up driving it home last night from school with just the fog lamps.  Plenty bright enough but I think I'd end up ticketed so I have to get that fixed.

you mean the lights went out or the motor that flips the lights up failed and the lights went down into the bumper?

*EDIT* by ignition I was refering to the the distributor and associated parts, 94-97 F-Body's ran the LT1 which used an Opti-spark system, the distributors had serious durability problems due to excessive moisture and vibration issues.  there were revised distributors with some type of weep hole or drainage vent or something in the distributor that solved this issue, but it was never part of any formal recall and as far as I can recall, 96 and 97 were the only years that got the updated Opti-Spark distributor from the factory. I think the 91-96 vettes distributor is interchangable and it considered an upgraded, but don't quote me on that.

here is a I have refered to in the past that I keep saved on my desktop

nice! Thanks John.  Great info. So far I love the power this thing has.  Never had a "fast" car.  Had a 305 in an 86 camaro  I had back in High school but it was slow as poop on a stick.  This thing had me sideways shifting into 3rd and  still aiming straight down the road.  Problem is It looses traction unless you ease out of first and second with the current brgoodrich tires on it now .  I love driving this thing. Never would have squeezed into a car like this before surgery.  Now the seats hug me like a glove.  Wicked comfy even long term drives.  With the six speed highways don't eat up much gas at all.  Thing gets better fuel economy than my 318 in the durango.

will post a few more pics from my laptop in a bit Wink

Drag radials will fix that problem and are a nice option depending on how many miles you plan to put on a year (and if you plan for mostly dry weather conditions).  I'd recommend the Nitto 555R.

Congrats on the new purchase..... sounds like you are enjoying it.  Burn Out

yeah kent I am.  I actually have an 83 notchback I am working a deal if I can on. 5.0 of course good shape has all the gt ground effects.  need new brakes all around but fires up and runs solid.  I am not sure how the firebird will be on the track but I plan to find out very soon.  I picked up a set of 255 60 16's on aluminum image racing wheels that only had 1000 miles on them.  Met a guy with a 1994 camaro with 14000 original miles on it.  The car hasnt been driven on the street in 5 or 6 years and has the corvette trim package and a super charger in it.  Real cool guy sold me the tires and rims for only $200.  He has a set of drag radial he's willing to part with for $300 and they are brand new never mounted.  I will most likely be buying those soon.  I like the nitto nt555 series in the 285 40 17 flavor for the rears also but with a $319 price tag each tire I think those drag radials will get my attention for sure.

Thanks kent! Any plans to run your stang down the track? or have you already?

What are the modifications to the notch and would this be in addition to or a replacement for the super chicken, hawk, whatever?

I'm not sure where you are getting your pricing but the 555NT is only $181 for the 285/40/17
http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/tires/nitto/product/submitProductSize.do?pc=40151&tmn=NT+555+Extreme+Performance&typ=Passenger%2FPerformance

Depending on how much power you are playing with and driving conditions I wouldn't even bother with the NT and move right to the 555R

The 555 Drag Radial is 275/40/17 and is offered for $180

My lx hasn't been down the track yet but I did get a decent number on miles logged this summer.  I'm sure it will make a Wed night trip up to Epping in the spring... Roll Eyes

When I do it will start with something like this....

kent...addition to and tire rack was where I was looking.  Drag radials are a deal for that price. Thanks for the info. Mods on the notchback are 6pt cage, line locks, cobra wheels and drag radials but it will need some new fronts. They are beat.  He had a bottle in it and wants to keep it but interior is beat. Typical roof liner sag missing interior...ugly maroon faded plastics and the door handles are both broke but easy fixens.  I am just a deal away from getting possession.  Trying to barter labor for it. He needs a chimney torn down and disposed of but he is leaning torn springtime now as he needs cash and just installed stainless flu pipe for a woodstove he had kicking around.  Price will include patching the hole and siding fix.  Pretty straight forward but he isn't sure yet.  Cash would talk but I just did new slotted rotors calipers lines and ceramics all around my car plus I need to upgrade my distributer.  Second heavy moisture day it has been parked outside and it woukdnt start. JOHN I believe mentioned this issue to me and after some research I discovered this to be very accurate. THese stock distributers in these firebirds suck.

Ready to follow you up to Epping though.  I want to see that cloud of rubber smoke in person.

hmmm good question but no pretty sure it was a hard tom. Maroon or burgandy color.  He was an old guy in his late 50's early 60's and had a 300z I think it was that was in mint shape with 19000 og miles and theb som yellow suped up bike that he was selling for 11000.  He had a custom paintjob on it.  Super nice bike.  He drove a bmw and his garage was at some rental property he owned

Big D,

The notch sounds interesting as long as it is solid.  It sounds like he has done a few things to it but I was asking more about the motor.  It is a stock motor or does it have heads or anything?
