I wouldn’t say difficult. There are enough holes on either side of the frame along with holes on the top and bottom that I can get a very good assessment of overall coverage.

I got a lot done this weekend but unfortunately not much was completed on my project. I did make time to prime and paint the front brake hose frame brackets. I also installed the front spring hangers as well. The stock CJ came with 2 ˝“ rear springs and 2” front springs. I have 4 YJ springs I plan to install that are 2 ˝” wide so I used a set of CJ rear spring hangers in the front to replace the 2” hangers. I had to straighten the hanger as the CJ rears have a bit of a curve to them and I used grade 8 fasteners in place of the rivets I removed previously. Front and rear CJ hanger. With moving the hanger forward and the CJ rear hanger being shorter I will need to add a 1”shim between the steering box bracket and frame. I plan to do this by cutting a piece off the original hanger.

Yesterday I finished coating inside the frame. As you can see by the puddle I missed taping off a seem that was hidden under the frame spring hanger. I also welded on the rear crossmember

Amazing how good a shape that frame is in. How did the flipping and coating go for you. Must have been a task. Looks greak Chuck. Soon parts will be flying around the garage and bolting up to and all over that frame Can't wait and you always take great pics to go with your work so I imagine we will see it all unfold as if we were right there with you. Cool!!

Thanks guys.
Coating inside wasn’t bad. I lifted the rear of the frame by stacking some wood on the saw horse and dropping the front to the floor as you can see in the pic. I taped off the holes on the bottom (at least the ones I found) and poured the paint in. I then taped off the side holes and propped the frame on its side. I used the rear of the frame rail and the holes on the top and sides to pour the paint in. I laid cardboard on the floor to catch any spills.

It looks great and that is one sweet frame. Any chance you can post up the products that you are using for the frame prep and paint?

Thanks Kent, I use Eastwood products they have a good reputation with excellent customer service. I use their metal wash for top coat prep. http://www.eastwood.com/metal-wash-7-oz.htmlI also use their Rust Encapsolater. I think it’s just as good or better then por-15 plus I can use mineral spirits to thin apposed to the por-15 where you have to use there thinning product at an extra cost. Not that your frame would be getting lots of sun but RE is UV protected and por-15 isn’t. http://www.rustencapsulator.com/

I repaired the passenger side frame motor mount yesterday. The most likely reason for the crack was the PO neglected to torque the b-housing bolts properly and they fell out or he only installed 2 of the 6 bolts. This is what I found when I disassembled the drive train. There is no washer outline so I’m guessing he installed just 2 bolts. I drilled a hole at the end of the crack to help keep it from traveling and chamfered the edge Used a couple of c-clamps to draw the mount together. I welded both sides and now just have to touch-up the inside of the bottom hole and edge before paint.

this is a great build. i wish i had the welding skills you and others on the forum have. when i get a house and a garage i'll get a welder and start practicing. for what it's worth, my dad and i used the Eastwood rust encapsolator on our corvette frame and several other pieces and are very happy with the results.
