Saturday morning I spent a few hours wire wheeling the frame to prep for paint.

Saturday afternoon I changed all the fluids in the diffs, tranny, t-case, and motor on the 47 Flattie I picked up last Tuesday. Also changed the plugs, installed an exhaust hanger, greased all zerk fittings and filled the knuckles.

Sunday I took it for a day long test run. It ran great and only had one minor problem when the rear brake hose broke. Despite the 31” ATs it climbs well.

There is a known tranny issue I will address as well but overall it was a good find.

The factory welds are worse in other areas of the frame (seems) that I have touched up already. I'll run a bead on the hangers to clean them up and add extra strength. I say extra strength because the weld in the above quote has been strong enough to last 32 years and shows no signs of failing.

Krome, the Silver Anniversary CJ 5 that’s posted in this thread I bought just for the unique and rare seats (for my SA CJ5) plus the price was dirt cheap. The seats are rare enough that a guy who owns a SA offered me $1000 for just the two front seats. However, I have no plans to sell them. After the seats were removed I had no use for the Jeep so I installed some other seats and did some repairs and sold it.

The above Flattie I didn’t need but the price was too good to pass on it. I will do some small repairs and wheel it until my 77 is built then sell it.

It may be at a snails pace but I am moving forward.

posi, you have any flat fenders you would sell? (not a 3b, got one of those), just a body frame is what i really need (well a title would be good) but a rolling chasis would be nice

After getting the heavy stuff off with a power washer I then washed down the frame with a metal wash product that has a corrosion inhibitor and helps promote paint adhesion.

Here is the frame with two coats of Rust Encapsulator.

Side note: I plan to remove the front shock mounts so there wasn’t a need to paint them.

I plan to tape off the holes and coat the inside of the frame as well.

How are you going to coat the inside?

How are you going to coat the inside?

I might be wrong, but I believe you tape all the holes in the frame so paint cant escape, then you pour paint into the inside of the frame (then tape the hole) and start rotating the frame all around so the paint can go everywhere. When you think your good, untape one end and hang to drip the rest out.

That's how I would do it.

My plan is as Mitch posted tape, pour, and roll.

However, I have been talking to a friend of a friend that coats the inside of an airplane’s wings. He uses a pump with a long thin flexible hose and a small head that sprays a rust inhibitor. The chemical he uses is only for aluminum but he is looking into another product for steel. If he finds it he will lend me the equipment to do the job. As you can imagine it will be more efficient then the pour and roll.
