Ohhh, nice to see that Chrysler doesn't see the price of gas falling BELOW $3/gallon anytime in the near future.

The prices we have are absolutely ridiculous, and nobody gives a flying fart. Is anyone else conserving their gas?   I do 65 on the highway and I've resorted to driving my wife's car to work.

Heating the house with oil this coming winter is going to SUCK.

Problem is none of his neighbors are laughing.  My neighbor 2 houses down has one, hes about 500' away and we still get smoke around our house, not fun.  Feel sorry for the guy between us.

I run a pellet stove In my house.  I've had it for 3yrs, it works great.  Heats the first floor and maintains about 70*+ even on the coldest days.  It keeps the second floor warm but If I had a vent to the second floor it would do much better.  It uses 3-4 tons of pellets a season and so far no major problems.  I bought a small pellet stove to install in the finished basement.  This should make a difference keeping the first floor warm as well.  The best part is you fill the 70# hopper with pellets set the thermostat and leave, Come back in 12-16 hrs and refill it and that is on the very cold days.

How much does 1 ton of pellets run you?  I'm guessing someone delivers them to your house?

Yeah I was inside it today. Its actually preety big. But it costs $10M in 1978 dollers. And because they don't want waste they can't use the full 5MW of power so it can maybe light a light bulb... but I doubt it.

My outdoor furnace doesn't bother my neighbors a bit.  All 3 burn wood and closest one is ~ 500' away.  Wind direction plays a a big part.  Prevailing winter winds typically blow the smoke away from my neighbors and into the woods.  Closest house that way is nearly 2 miles.  They should NOT be installed in a residential area.

I deserve to laugh all winter after I spend all spring summer and fall collecting, cutting and stacking wood.   :-[

Do you have a splitter/saw?

At work, we cut logs into 4' lengths, throw them on a 4' (20 ton I think) splitter, and then cut them using a PTO powered arbor saw.

The cost of gas going up $1 a gallon = ~$100 a month for me (30000 @ 25mpg).  This is the same as eating out for lunch every day :)  I make up for the gas cost by bringing lunch and eating healthy.
