retractable compressor hose to hang from ceiling

those are expensive..just roll it up on the compressor handle instead. you can buy a nice impact driver for the cost of the reel.
yeah that too

thanks for the responses everyone.

never thought getting a roll-off for just a day would be so expensive....anyone got a dumpster guy?

i am going to treat the floor somehow...my feeling is why not do it right from the jump when its empty, rather than decide to do it down the line when its set-up.

Two cheapest I found was from the one Todd suggested Yes Disposal and a friend of friend's company On and Gone Dumpsters.

I got a 30 yarder on friday and I almost filled it in one day.

Good luck!

if you are concerned about floor coating i would not paint it. it will come off and not in a manner hat will look nice in a very short while.

i just sealed my floor and let it be, in fact i tell my customers to do the same thing when i build a garage for them.

the most important thing when building a shop to work in is to organize the space as well as possible. take advantage of the high ceilings and make sure everything has a spot.

you can go craxzy with outfitting a new shop but i would say heat is oftent he one thing that people overlook and it is easily the most important thing in a shop (i woud include A/C as well as heat) you will be spending many hours in that shop and it is not comfortable in the winter. and think about how long the heating season is in mass!

as far a air compressor, i have a big bad air comp and i hardly use it. yeah putting tires on and taking them off i use it. or airing up tires i use it but for the most part hand tools will get the job done.  i am currently fabricating alot of different things for people as well as doing maintence on people's jeeps to earn extra money and i def use the compressor more but again when i am building for my self i use mostly hand tools.

i good floor jack is super important, you will do so much with it you will never want to use a crappy bottle jack again.

jack stands if you are going to be doing suspension work or axle wrok. get BIG BAD jack stands! the bigger the better! we ain't working on honda accents! :o

i chop saw is a nice thing to have, but not real important unless you are doing fab work.

i could go on and on

it would be easier for you to tell us what you are thinking about getting and we could give you input than us just telling you "buy this or buy that"

and yes, dumpsters are not cheap (as was said before, i used to use YES Diposal)

i co-own a 2 family that has a massive 2 car garage that needs new doors desperately.
Does that mean you co-own the garage as well?

If so, how does the other owner factor into your building plans?

Is he a willing participant in the funding and planning?

Are there plans if the other owner sells his share?

Great points!!
How true!!  Before we gas up your money train, might be good to know as anything you buy could be a bad investment if you end up not having a place to utilize it.

good points gents...i will clarify a bit.  I co-own the property with my mom so i have no concerns to your points or no visions of her contributing to the cause.  haha.

I intend on the typical shadetree mechanic stuff, minor fab, maintenance, etc on the jeep and bike.  I also will be utilizing the space to secure my vehicles, the jeep and the harley and hopefully down the line a muscle car

my plan for to start up....
epoxy the floor
insulate and sheetrock/pegboard walls
electrical upgrades
a lot of overhead lighting
and of course the must have initial tools that have been mentioned
      floor jack
      beef jackstands
      compressor
      air tools
      vise
oil change and brake job misc items
      grinder
      hand tools
couple other small things to start

thanks for all the replies...looking forward to getting started on this project in the next week or so
