new guy intro and couple q's for you folks
« on: March 12, 2009, 07:22:55 PM »
hello,
my name is Andrew, i live in RI and I purchased my first Jeep just a week ago....and 05 TJ Rocky Mt Edition with the Dana 44 rear-end and a 6 spd.  Welp, i've spent a bunch of cash (to me anyway) making a more than capable off-road vehicle even better and i joined up here looking to do some legal wheeling and meet great people in the area w/ the same jeep addiction as me, sort of like my self-help group i guess.
onto my questions...
i was invited to attend this months trail ride and i am currently lacking in some of the club required gear to participate with the rest of you jeep-heads.  here are my questions/concerns...

can i ride along with another member if i am not able to outfit my rigg with the required parts? (cb radio being the one i mainly conerned with right now)?

can i bring a buddy of mine that is interested in wheeling as well even if he is not a member nor intending to be, just a guy looking to have some fun and kill the time with on the ride there and back?

does any with a TJ with stock front and rear bumpers have advice for the best way to mount d-rings so i can satisfy the tow-point requirement?...my thought is that i can just drill a hole and mount em up.

thanks in advance and i look forward to meeting you and allowing this awesome machines to do what god intended it to do!!

Hey there  :salute:

I'm almost positive there will be open seats.  We can try to find one for you if you wish.

I'm not sure about bringing a friend.  I know members can do it...but don't know about applicants.  We'll let the higher-ups answer this question ;)

And I don't own a TJ.  Many people here do, though...so I'm sure they can help you out.

for a tj front bumper, the cheapest/ easiest thing is...http://www.4wd.com/productdetails.aspx?partID=10464  i used to use this same thing

for the rear i did... http://www.4wd.com/productdetails.aspx?partID=10637

i also welded the rear hooks after i bolted them, but it wasn't really needed

only the rear has to be drilled, the front is a simple bolt on...

oh, i have a stock TJ bumper with two hooks bolted/welded on available for really really cheap in woburn, ma

Walmart has a 40 channel cobra for $34.96 and a ceheapo antenna at Radio Shach is 14.99.

You can't find cheaper and you get a free yellow smiley sticker too.

setting up a photobucket account right now!!!!

my lift is coming tomorrow, 2.5" suspension and 1.25" body lift from Rough Country and i am installing it and the new shoes, 33x12.5x15 Cooper Discoverer STT's w/ cragar soft 8's w/ 4" backspacing, this weekend w/ a couple buddies and a case of cold beer.

so far all i have added is stuff like floor liners, grab handles, front and rear light cages and cheapo bushwacker rocker panels to get rid of those flare extensions and cover up some scratches!

3's and the lift will get you through that mud a bit easier.  Nice jeep.  Looks like you've come to the right place.  We all enjoy the same thing.  Well most of us aren't big on the mud but once we are in it we tend to throw it around as much as any but dents beat dirt anyday.

yea i hear ya on the mud.  at this point i take whatever i can get...and in this case the mud seemed innocent enough.  that is until it was sucked down in there for over an hour!

gonna try my best to limit the dents, but hey...its a heep right? urgh i mean jeep!
