I plan on picking one up next week, and I was wondering, what should I look for, and avoid when looking into a CB for the jeep? price is not much of an issue( unless it's an overpriced POS).
oh yeah, and antennas.... yeah I have no idea about those....what are you running on yours mitch?

Firestik 2 antennas are the best IMHO. Don't go overboard with CBs. A $40 one will be fine. I might upgrade to one with a weather radio at some point...but for now the normal 40 channel one will work fine.

The ones with the weatherband is kind of cool. I used it more than I thought I would.

my suggestion would.. cheapest as possible. unless it is something that can be easily removed and stored (hand held), it's gonna get wet, dusty, dirty, etc.. and will prematurely fail due to abuse. I've gotten an average of 4-5 years out of a cb regardless if it is expensive or cheap.

A $200 CB will do no good with a walmart antenna. in other words your cb is only as good as the antenna attatched to it. in my opinion some wil disagree but i think a single stainless whip is much better for quality durability and range as opposed to the fiberglass ones.especially offroad because they wont explode when you crush them and you can bend them and tie them down if need be. a short wilson trucker series antenna will be plenty good enough for anything on the trails and will make one of those cheap $40 cbs sound great. if your really feeling crazy you could even go with a power mic and nobody on the trails will miss what you say. get one with a built in swr so you can adjust when needed and you don't have to mess with the antenna. also dual antennas are pretty much useless unless in this situation. I have a cobra 29 classic in my truck with the wilson 2000 and get 5-10 miles depending on the day and terrain.

If you get over a year on your cb and its still works properly you've already made out. the uniden 76 and cobra 29 series are prob the two most durable out there if you can fit them in your truck

I have always had Corba CB's, the current one sort of works. It got quite a soaking last year at fall crawl and has work intermitten since. gonna head to radio shack to get the cheapest one

I would suggest what ever mount you choose do not go with anything magnetic based. Find a good location and fix it there with a good mount. That being said I have an excaliber steel and fiberglass whip that I got from my dad who is hardcore into cb and has a $2000 base model in his home with a 50 foot mast off his rooftop. I on the other hand hate it and want a staionary fiberglass whip. I will gladly sell ya this one. Look wise... i personally like mud wranglers

wifey bought me this midland hand held a while ago, and seeing as though I don't really wheel, I've only used it twice. http://www.midlandradio.com/CB-Radio.WYQ/75-822 It can be found online for ~$65 and up. You can hard wire it or just use it as a hand held with the controls on the mic.
