Hi all,

I am lookig for some suggestions (+ or -) on purchasing tires.  I am looking at 34 x 16 x Huh and I am doing a 2 1/2 suspension lift this winter with a 1 1/2 body lift  some time in the future.  I saw a thread about Tread Wright tires on this forum some time ago but have been unable to find it.

I am looking at     https://www.treadwright.com/p-77-315-75r16-guard-dog-m-t-d.aspx

at a delivered cost of $182 per tire.

I was also looking through interco tires but they didn't seem to have the size I am looking for.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks Rich

not really sure what your asking.  Tires under 35" tall with a 16" rim are going to be a little more expansive and the selection will be a little more limited than a 15" rim. looking for a P-metric equivilant would ease the search. I think a 34" tire for a 16 rim is 285-75.r16 (r meaning radial) or 315-75r16. I honestly don't know for sure but someone else can clear that up.

Also the trend and direction of the aftermarket and factory offerings are towards a 17" rim. If you want to swap to a 17" rim, there might be more tire selections.

as for the actual tire, get what you want. the treadwrights will probably get better tread life for a mostly street driven jeep, the swampers will probably be better offroad. From what people have mentioned, the tsl ssr and the all terrain tire that I can not recall the name appear to get the best tread life of all the interco tires.

285/75/16 is closer to a 33"
315/75/16 is closer to a 35"

They both come in a little under that size, but from what I understand, most tires do regardless of how they are sized.

Alot of 16's are load range E which are intended for 3/4-1 ton pickups not Jeeps. The 285's in particular are often E's. I'm running 305/70R16's on my rig now which is equivalent to 33x12x16 and they are a load range D.

I guess what I was asking is for opinions on  the quality of treadwright tires or other  tire options.  The TJ is in the process of transforming into a 3 season toy since I have a new daily driver and will not be putting a ton of miles on her anymore so something more agressive is OK.
I have a set of aftermarket 16" wheels  or still have the 15"  factory wheels available.

stick with the 15s and get whatever mud terrain you think would work for you, price wise and size and the rest will be cream cheese.

I paid just under $200 per tire for my 305/70R16 Maxxis Bighorns at Metro Jeep in Johnston RI. Jeff in the parts department tends to give us Jeep guys a good deal. This was almost two years ago though.

I run treadwrights and have had no issues off road or as a daily driver. I hit the MassPike 2-3 times a week and again no issues with the tires...They use BFG tires and the Guarddog tread is aggressive enough and sidewalls handled fine aired down below 15lbs. For the price and warranty you can't go wrong
