Totaled the Jeep Sigh.....
« on: April 05, 2007, 09:32:36 PM »
Yesterday I was on my way to work, driving over the Newport bridge. I was in the left lane going between 50-55mph and the front right caliper must have seized up because the Jeep was yanked to the right. I hit the 18" or so curb and jumped up on it then hit the guard rail and slid along the rail for about 50 ft. When I came to a stop I got out and with in 2min the state police were there. The jeep was all cleaned up within a half hour. I wasn't hurt at all and no one else was involved.

I will be driving a Ford Focus (shutter) that I had and just never drove. The plan is to drive the focus till September or so and get another Jeep.

Here are acoupple of photos some taken with phone others taken with camera at junkyard.

Best modification, loose nut behind the wheel.

holy shite, thats scary.
it would have been a lot cooler(or not) if you had gone over the rail.
I hate bridges and that confirms one of my worst fears. I mean that could have happened anywhere...where you could have just ran into the median, but no, it happened 125 feet over freezing cold water with a bad current.
Im glad youre OK.

WOW!  That must have been scary!  Did you at any point think that you were going over the bridge?

Good to know that you are ok.

I go over that bridge hundreds of times a year honestly I didnt even think about the water. I remember thinking "O fu$&", and then when I stoped "wow im ok". I saw the coil spring shot out like a cannon, and little pieces of jeep come off like some one took a giant cheese grater to it.

As far as what Jeep I'm not quite sure probably another xj or a tj we'll see.

Thanks for the warm wishes and such.

It all happens so fast, there isnt even time to think.  Atleast thats how it was when my xj decided it was time to take a sharp turn into a wall on the highway.
