So today I dropped my wallet getting in the truck at the center of town. Called the PD to report it lost, or stolen an hour later and it had already been turned in at the police station.  Besides ID, credit cards, bank card, etc. I also had > $100 in cash.  Wallet was turned in untouched.  Shocked  I got the info from the dispatcher on the person who turned it in, and stopped by their house to thank them in person and gave them $50 and a sincere thanks for their honesty.  Maybe I'm a pessimist, but I really can't believe that there are that many good honest folks left in today's society.  Did I just get incredibly lucky, or do you think most folks would have done the same thing?  Was $50 a fair reward?

I think any reward is fair.  I can say that I would have done the same thing, because the guilt would have eaten away at me.

Good thing to know you got it back...I'm sure there are plenty of people who wouldnt have returned it.

x2     except for all that crappy emotional stuff Todd put in at the end....

If it were me, I would have snatched up my wallet and got the good samaritans address who turned it in, only to show up and rob them. BOOYA!

The same type of thing happened to my mother last year, but it was her engagement ring.  The person found it and returned it.  My mom gave the girl $100 for being so honest.

So tehre are others out there like that, but they are few and far between.  And rewards are always great.  I think you and he both did the right thing.

I believe that if I do enough good and help enough people, that the one day I need help, people would e there to help me.

so, ya, I would have turned it in the same... not sure I would have gone to the PD, I think I would have tried the address on the Drivers Liscense first.

that's what I did when I found a purse at a concert.  I googled the address and go the phone number.  Then I called them up and shipped it back to them.

You ask if you were just lucky and I think it depends on where you lose it.  If you lose it in a city like Malden (where I live), you probably dont get it back.  Lots of low income people here who could use the $100 and are probably desperate enough to fraudulently use your credit cards.

In a town where people are financially comfortable, then sure you get it back.
