Now I guess I need some engine work. Have to tear this stupid thing down. ARGGGGGgggggGGggGg

So, who knows a good machine shop? I need my block cleaned, magnafluxed, bored and decked. Will probably go forged pistons this time.

Of course this isn't on my Jeep. It is on my POS Mitsubishi Import POS junk dumb car.

work at a machine shop i MAY, give you the number for the shop and who to talk to i CAN, tell you you can bring my name up when talking to the boss i WILL. But hoking you up I CANNOT thats up to Dave.
I don't work in the machine shop much anymore because the machine shop is not separate from the service shop, and i mainly work on the resto stuff now. and an occasional dyno job. but the actual machine shop is run by one guy now.-Dave

If you want to call him and tell him what and what you wanna do he'll give you prices.hes a good Censored, and he always makes fun of my jeep and tells me i'm gay so if you mention your in the jeep club he may call you gay as well. your better off telling him you know me from the "gay" jeepers club, then you'll have his attention. He'll most likely be able to give you an estimate over the phone. he should be there monday or tuesday if you want to call him, the shop opens around 9:00.
i don't know the direct number for the new shop but if you call 781-631-2106 jeff or heather wil give you the number for out back.
the guy you want to talk to is Dave.

Humm. Thanks Tony. right now I am trying to just put a new bearing in and hope for the best. The crank is not scored up and looks like it will take. Problem is I need a 2-3inch micrometer and I don't have one. I measured the journal size with a caliper and got a reading of 2.085, when it should be 2.09. That would mean the bearing is 5 thousands under size, which is not a valid size. I think I will just try and buy one off of ebay.

I really don't feel like rebuilding the whole engine because I know I need new rings, which means I probably need new pistons... the list will go on.

if the shaft is not scored i would say its probaby within spec. even if its a half a thou undersized depending on the customer a half a thou will be fine, unless its seeing real high RPMs and your racing it.
i was going to suggest a new bearing if he crank didn;'t look junk. but i would have that rod cut before you reasemble it ythat would be cheap and its got to be done by the looks of that rod.

I've tried reassembling engines with new bearings after a failure like that with little to no success.  I found it cheaper to buy a new jeep than rebuild the engine, and thus my blue cherokee was purchased.

Well I measured it with a mic and it turned out not out of round and up to spec. Im preety sure my rod is toast, I could test sit with some platigauge but its not worth it.

I thought about it and I think I will fully rebuild it. I found a great deal on some used (6k miles)  8-1 forged pistons with race prepped rods... MMmmmMmm

I think I might try Richards auto service because it is in lowell. I have a friend that had his 22re toyota block machined and cleaned up there.

Yeah I know, but I will see what happends. Worst comes to worse I will just resell them on ebay for $200. I bought them for $200. The pistons are $490 new, and the rods are $375. They also come with ARP hardware that goes for $40.
