not a big fan of CJ7 and YJ.
you lying sack of balless flesh.  You sat in the back seat of my CJ7 with me at the drive ins a few weeks back tossing down goobers & milk duds watching  Shrek while filling my ears full of jibberish about someday wanting to own a big, hott, sexy, fierce green CJ7 exactly like mine and how you would do anyone or anything to ride even shotgun in such a glorious looking rugged build of steel.

you don't remember that conversation do you Mitch?

let me refresh your memory....it took place right after I kicked you in the junk for spilling your root beer float all over my custom DIAMOND plated Bling cup holders ( yes broosky, my addiction has traveled even into the back seat on the inside of my sidewalk sizzler).

Seriously why not a CJ or YJ.....suspension reasons? leafs scare you?
don't let what happen to the Twistman worry you.

Springs are not usually supposed to snap like that and wouldn't during your light wheeling.

for the record I am not gay, it is Mitch who lured me into the back seat promissing me he had some shiny hardware to really make my chromed parts POP.

& I second the CJ's and YJ's not being a good DD.  Look newer model and coil over for comfortable on road ridings..

YJ's are ugly, and because of the square headlights are not real jeeps. And the suspension/ride quality has a lot to do with it.

CJ7 = YJ with round headlights.

I dont have any good reasons for disliking them, I have no problem with them. The CJ7 looks terrific in your driveway.

i am currently building a jeep to take my little guy out on also mitch so i understand. but honestly cj's are tough jeeps to own, not cause of leafs, it cause they are full of issues!  i mean full of them, most people (bigd) have hacked them up so bad that you will be chasing issues created by others for a long time! i mean a long time, they are full of issues. i have yet to buy a cj that did not create some sort of headache for me, and i have owned and know alot about them. sure you could get lucky and find a nice one. but . . . .

here you go in fact

http://forum.neow.net/index.php?showtopic=97585

i know this guy, he is a stand up dude.  and if i were to buy a cj it would be a cj7, cj5 is really small, i mean really small. think of this fact mitch, my cj5 could only fit a 35" tire laying in the back. the tire filled the entire rear of my cj5!! i know mine is a bit smaller than a newer cj5 but not much.

but let me tell you this, you would be fine hitting class 6 roads witha porperly built xj and not break windows.

and about the truck thing i get it!

those look pretty nice, always good to hear of a seller who's recommended. I am unsure on the entire CJ platform here now mainly because of the warnings given in this thread.

did you say you new of a few XJ's?

go for that white TJ. With the Sahara edition you at least get a better gear ratio considering you already have 33's waiting. budget boost slap on your tires and your good to go for $3500 with a nice jeep.

I would suggest not buying a 5 if you intend to take your family with you or you don't like to wrench. Besides that their great Jeeps with plenty of character and for fit, I'm 6"2 210 and comfortable in a fattie to a 5 I also have a friend that's 6'2 290 and has been wheeling a flattie for the last 20 years. Although he does have one of those black smiley faces on his t-shirt (belly high) from the steering wheel.

XJs are dime a dozen.

thanks chuck, and I was being serious - trying to google what the sahara edition package was, but other than 1HP more than regular jeeps and a fancy center consile I am not coming up with anything.

first off, if your looking for an XJ, I would not buy one from new england, specifically if you are looking for a clean on to DD. they haven't been made in 9 years and even 2001 are starting to show up with significant rust on the floor boards.  You may be able to find a nicer xj for same price down in say virginia and N/S carolina.

second.. If you considering a xj, do not discount the zj as well. You can find good zj's out there, some with v8's I personally prefer the 97-98 years, but that me. I have heard horror shows about the 99-04 grands so I will not recommend one, but I honestly don't know.

If you want to get a tj, if it were me, I would look for one as stock as possible. That white one that mike posted was nice. I would say get a 98 and on, only because very few 97's had D44 rears, it was a late year option on sahara's
