For those who dought the strength ( witch I dought any one here doe's ) a 14 bolt. A few weeks back I got the rear wedged bad, to the point that the tire looked like a 32" tire compressed. So I tried to throtle out forward when I did it lifted the driver side front and put all the weight of the Jeep on that rear tire and shaft.

Well after doing a few wheelie's on that axle I figured it would go bang but it didn't, Sean tried to back me out but we had to lift the rock off the tire, alot. And I was able to back out with some effort. If you stood on the rock you could bounce up and down on it.

This is the second time I poped the front up in the air on one side of an axle, so if your thinking a 30 spline 60 rear is good enough ask yourself can it get out of this Grin

Fine, once I got it backed out I checked it over and it was fine. Iroks are very durable tire's, Ive ran them flat threw the rocks before I got my bead locks. This tire in that Pic was touching the inner rim near the center of the rim, thats how compressed it was.

14 bolt 30 splines is a little different than the 60's 30spline (Dana 44) shaft.

I love 14bolts.  Best part is you can do that with STOCK axles.  no 300m chromoly axles necessary

And in stock form it will be very tuff to break a 14bolt pinion shaft unlike some people do with a 60's  Wink

Look up spidr on Pirate.  He's the only guy I've ever heard of breaking a 14b pinion.  It took 2 SM465s, a V8 and 49" Iroks.   Cool

Huge difference between a stock 30 spline 60 and a stock 30 spline 14 bolt. The 14 bolt stuff is 1 9/16" and the 60 is 1 3/8", plus the 14B has a deeper pressure angle over the dana stuff.
Yep this axle is all stock, pulled striaght from a junkyard truck and put into service, well minus the disc brake's.

Oh the pinion on a dana 60/70 is 1.125" 29 spline, the 14 bolt is 35 spline at 1.5", so that will solve any pinoin brakeage. Hey Miguel you paying attention Grin

Yup, right now debating using a rear steer 14bolt or a rear steer 60 for the rear of the next buggy.
Holding me up is the fact I have a Detroit and 5.13 gears for the 60.  If I'd go 14 bolt I'd have to get ($$$) the gears and probably lincoln lock it.  Thats why I havent made up my mind yet.

Might wait it out a little longer, the cut 14bolt Jason has most likely not going anywhere right....
