Nope and you just saw how I made the 35 spline spool for a 14 bolt, so at the very least it could be a 35 spline steering axle.

Nothing to see here John, LOL. Our friend Sean just broke over the weekend, he snapped the pinion off his 60 rear during a short blaze threw a field.
Now Miguel has the same basic drivetrain laid out for his buggy and is questioning the 60 rear he wants to build. So I have my old 14 bolt the one I cracked the plug welds, well I cut it up for scrap a few years ago but were thinking if Miguel wanted to do a 14 bolt rear steer ( for the larger pinion head ) then this axle would be the one.

Horse power and suction cup tire's make's you open the wallet that much more Grin

I doubt youd be interested as it would be the center chunk only, everything else would be used to steer the 14bolt.

Actually, I might be interested in taking the center chunk off of you. Smiley

PM me a price if you decide to do it.

Probably not.  I don't think it would be any upgrade for me.  I was curious about the 60 center section because I could re-tube it for rear steer, and still be able to have convenient seals.

I will probably end up rear-steering the 14b with aftermarket C's and knuckles.

I made it so you know it wont break Grin

A big plus is its set up for a 4 link ( Balistic joints on the bottom and 5/8 JJ joint top ) and to make it full size again just run DRW hubs, bingo instant rear steer Grin

Tim I just made a 14 bolt 35 spline spool over the weekend, well its not for a 14 bolt its actully for a HO72, but they use the same side gears as a 14 bolt. So the custom ( easy to make ) side gears fit in and welded just nicely into a Orb of traction.

question, if you looking to build a light weight buggy, why front and rear 14 bolts.. thats some serious weight. I understand the strength, but I am sure a fabbed 9" front and rear built to the hilt could live a long life in a truely light weight buggy?

I guess it comes down to if your racing or crawling.
Crawling yes as lightweight as possible and your COG as low as possible.
Racing, meh its more about durability & reliability then anything else, a 9" pinion is only slightly larger then a 60 not nearly as big as a 14 bolt.

Think about it if your snapping 60 pinions at the splines due to torque, how do you upgrade in order to have piece of mind?

9" is smaller than a 60 Wink

It also come's down to what Miguel will be producing for power. After his tune he will be in a 375-400 range that alot of power going threw a 1.125 pinion shaft. So were thinking, just thinking of a back up axle that could be built.

Me I'm going with the HO72 axle, the pinion is a little overkill http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showpost.php?p=9645689&postcount=41 and the housing is alot lighter than a 60 and a 14 bolt.
There built just like a 9" but with a 10" ring gear ( 10.125" to be exact ) and have a thrust or a load bolt to keep the pinion from deflecting. I found a 3rd with a 5.14's and this axle will be my rear and for now I will have a Chevy 60 front with 5.13's.
