Jay's Rigs
« on: October 24, 2009, 10:27:19 AM »
My first love is Sunshine. 1984 GMC sierra 1500. When I got her she had a 305 carb'd motor. I swapped that out for a 350 TBI with only 88K on it. Wheeled it like that for a couple years with the 10 bolts open/open. She did good and handled most everything I threw at her. Had to use the more then I wanted too but stuffing a 7 foot wide vehicle down the New England trails isn't easy. In fact the off camber side of Carnage is probably clearly marked in yellow paint now. Since I got AirForce 1 Sunshine will become a long term project to build her the way I want. Step side short bed, new cab, some new 35's maybe a little less aggressive. Then I'll use her for the Class VI runs and some of the easier stuff. Keep AF1 for the harder stuff.

After the bumper install

Wheeling some Class VI's

Yanking down the rotted work shop at my house.

Since Sunshine needs some serious attention, I decided it was better to give her that and get her built right.
Meantime I didn't want to give up wheeling all together. So I've been passively keeping an eye out for a good rig that would fit the bill to hold me over.
I found this not far from my house in Sutton. He's actually the same guy that was selling  the yellow Sami I looked at for Jigg last year.

It's a 1989, webber carb, center force clutch, spring over with 34x9.5 TSL's
Body is pretty solid. lock- rites front and rear.

Future plans include an exo, new bumpers, move the CB over from Sunshine, work out some of the wiring issues from the previous owner.

So here it is, Airforce 1:

AF1 wasn't for sale on NEOW, but I did buy it from a NEOWer. Gymtom is his screen name, he sold 4 other ones about a year ago. 2 POS' and 2 good ones. He was keeping the Orange one for himself. He got another one thats EFI and a little more street friendly on 33's so he decided to sell the orange one.

I'll never give up on getting Sunshine the way I want her. It might take a few years but she wheel again!

Pretty much. It's a long story but the bottom line is the shop/guy that [censored] it up has put it back together and it's wheelable again.
I tested it around the yard on a steep hill climb and on some rocks in the vacant lot down the street and it goes pretty darn good.

Glad you found your way here Jay,  I am and always have been a huge fan of FS chevy's, in fact if someone offered the right price for my jeep, i would sell it in a heart beat and build another K5.

oh and one small correction, sunshine is a K10, chevrolet didn't use 1500, 2500 and 3500 as model monikers till 88 for the pickups, K=4x4, C=2x4... 5=blazer/jimmy, 10=1/2 ton 20= 3/4 ton and 30=1 ton
Dad always said "If it has boobs or spark plugs it will be fun AND will cause you problems."
