I bought it from a guy that used this Jeepster Commando as an advertisement tool for his business. He had decals on it (I removed them already) and parked it in front of his restaurant. He also drove it in parades with a mascot standing in the rear (this is the reason for the small rollbar). He went out of business and had to sell. The guy wasn’t mechanically inclined and subbed out the work. He paid a lot of money to have the brakes completely redone and a new alternator I saw the receipts, and the day before I looked at it he laid out $200 for a new fuel pump and filter, if done himself would have cost him $25 tops.
When I got there the mechanic started the engine up but it ran a little rough once he shut it down it wouldn’t start again. The PO had the mechanic try for about 30 mins to start it but he couldn’t. My gut feelings were that it wasn’t anything major and the owner just wanted to be done with it and priced it accordingly.
When I got it home I checked it over and found the issue was the neutral switch, not that it was bad, rather the mechanic didn’t put the stick forward enough in park so it wouldn’t start (there is some looseness to the stick). Once I moved the shift forward it started up.
The floor needs some patching along with a tune-up and paint. Everything is pretty much original 225V6/th400/d-20.
