Spartan Race
« on: October 04, 2012, 10:24:12 AM »
One of the things that has slowed up the engine swap on the J10 is I've been doing a bunch of training this summer for an event called the Spartan Race with my wife and a few other friends.  We did a bunch of training at Nashoba Valley ski area and I think it certainly helped us.

The event was at Killington Mt in VT two weeks ago and was a blast.  We didn't know exactly what to expect but were told the course would be between 10-12 miles.  The total distance ended up being 14.2 miles and it took us 6 hours and 22 minutes to complete it.  We are already signed up for next year and going to do an earlier wave as there gets to be congestion on some of the trails and obstacles that adds a lot of time.

I went with the full beard (well... almost 3 weeks for me) and highly recommend trying one of these (Spartan, Tough Mudder, Warrior Dash, Etc...) if you are interested.  They usually do them in 3, 8, and 10-12 mile events.

The beard.... ::)

Good job Kent! Did you have to throw the spear and jump throu the fire?

They have another one in november at Fenway Park in Boston. It's the Spartan Sprint (5k).

Fire Jumping.... check.  They do have you throw the spear and there were something like 25 obstacles.

My wife is the true animal (and nut that signed us up).  She sprained her ankle pretty bad at mile 8 hiking down one of the black diamond trails but insisted on finishing.  Jumping the fire near the finish line was pretty easy but you can see from my wife's face she is not looking forward to the landing.  I think she realized mid-air that she didn't get her steps right and was going to land on the bad ankle.

The Fenway one looks fun and they do a ton of them up at the tubing park right off 495 in Amesbury.

lol, that's great!! Looks like a lot of fun.

They better offer a keg of beer and a pig roast for the contestants after the race  or it's not complete.
