How many teams actually paid to register?
Last I read I think it was only 15, has that number increased?
If not, the odds are pretty good.

over 25 now, and they are allowing you to enter right up to the last minute pretty much (with a
hefty penalty"  Roll Eyes    )

Not an easy field of racers. 4 of the top 5 at KOH:

Loren Healy (#1)
Derek West (#3)
Easy Rick (#4)
Erik Miller (#5)

Its gonna be a good day of racing.  Some west coast guys are gonna learn what going fast is like with trees on either side.

Yeah but didnt I reed somewhere that if you finish the RCQ in the top 10 and are already qualified for 2011 that spot would go to say the #11 finisher?

Curious, is the penalty of the financial kind?  Roll Eyes

if all of top 10 are already qualified then they will take the next 3 only so basically the top 13 if top 10 are already in

penalty is financial yes. i have not heard how much it is going to be

the penalty is $$ like $100 more for late registration

they take top 10 drivers with a minimum of 3 non pre-qualified drivers.  So if 7 pre-qualified drivers are in the top 10 they only take the top 10.  if all ten are pre qual'd they take the top 13.

Pretty sure thee 4 above are the only pre-qual'd drivers so far so there is at WORST 6 open spots.  and at best 10.  let see what those west coast guys think about trees and mud.

Geez thats kind of unfair for the east coast guys, having pre-qual'd west coast guys coming in using up potentially 4 spots

Its any pre qual'd driver.  Erik Miller is from Maryland.  if Woodlee (Tennessee) shows up hes prequal'd too.  West coast guys are traveling out here for a shot at the series (IEOC) or just because they like racing.

Quite honestly they are making more opportunities to get in the race.  Additional qualifier at SMORR in Missouri.  as well as feeder events: TREC at Badlands, some thing in Canada, VORRA out west, ECORS, etc.  Actually right now there are MORE qualifying opportunities for eastern US people than western.

The other thing is they are trying to cull out the crap. It was amazing how many cars didn't make it to the first Pit.   There were a few qualifier events last year that Paying the money and finishing the race would have gotten you an invite (V2R, PUSU)

They are also shutting down the LCQ to keep cars out that shouldn't be there.  Its a strict top 10 from the LCQ make it now.  instead of fill the rest of the spots.  If you had the $$$ to show up to the LCQ you had a 50/50 chance of making it in.  There were a LOT of cars that shouldn't have been in the race.

I also heard the media, clebrity, blah blah blah invites are getting cut back as well --> one reason Ian Johnson is racing the RCQ
