Even easier place is on the drivers side next to the brake booster is a rubber grommet that goes directly next to the pedal assembly.  It's where the dealer runs wired for the hardtop if it didn't come from the factory

But what you did also works and looks clean.

I have used that also. I needed to run wiring right from the battery to the passenger side so it was the most direct route. It should be noted that there is a type of bulk head in this area so you won't get 4/0 wire through there. There is a vertical panel parallel to the firewall about 3/4" away. My wiring runs through the grommet and then straight down to the kick panel.
