So i got into the jeep yesterday morning to head to work, turned the fan switch and nothing. It always worked fine on all 3 speeds, now not at all. I was thinking this would be a motor issue rather than the switch, correct? usually the switch would only lose one or 2 speeds?
Any input?

Check fuse

If good

Then check for 12v at the motor when switch is on.

Is you have power, need new motor.

If nothing, test switch.

Also, check grounds if they are there, not sure on the year of your cj, but some motors in older vehicles will have an actual ground seperate for the pigtail.

If it is the motor, I believe that a 73-75 k5 blower motor is an upgrade, but verify this, I am not positive.

test light to both sides of fuses or just check them all by pulling them and looking at them.  not to hard

those fans are notorious for burning out without warning

good luck

I am having the same problem on my CJ. I traced power from the switch to what looks like a resistor (the plug location on the heater housing under the glove box). I havent had a chance to check the blower motor yet but was wondering if CJ's have a blower motor resistor.

Yes, the blower motor runs slower then full speed on the first and second switch position because of the resister in the circuit.

historically in my experience, if it is the resistor switch, the motor is usually all or none, not a complete failure, but this is also with more modern vehicles.

If it ends up being the motor let me know.  I have the K5 motor that John mentioned (NIB) that I never got around to installing in my CJ.

so i messed around with the fuse box...and whacked the box under the dash where the fan is...and magically it works...all 3 speeds. i think it was just frozen from not being turned on all summer.

The Blazer motor upgrade is unbelievably great. Your defrost will actually work and it will blow the dirt and sand right off the floorboards! 71 Blazer with AC. I think its a 102 but I forget the two letters in front. The firewall will need to be opened up just a little bit because the motor is about 1/4" bigger around than stock.
