I have an RCA cell in my cj, which I believe fits behind the stock seat if you wanted that. I got it beacuse its wide/tall rather than taking up a lot of the cargo space.

So long as your mechanical pump can pull the fuel up and out of the tank it'll work fine. Mine has 3 holes, fuel pickup fuel return and vent. You'd just plug return. *note you do need to get some funky AN fittings to adapt the tank to a standard fuel line. I did a size adapter and then a 90 deg barb or so.

Having the tank higher will help the pump as once it primes the line most of the work will be siphoning. you can get aluminum AN fittings but JIC stuff will work as well AN-6 = JIC-6 they are dimensionally interchangeable.
