so in theory a Hi pinion rear D60 could be easily converted to a front axle.. with the Inner C's welded on?

A HP D60 already is a front axle...converted to rear use Grin

One thing about the 9" is the shape of the pinion teeth.  They are longer so they have more contact area with the ring gear.  This is why Currie gets away with their fake HP 9" in the rear,  It's stronger than most gear sets even when running backward.
