I really like the AEV Highline "body kit", but it is expensive and I would HATE to wheel and watch my $500 fender get torn off by a tree. So I found this, http://www.higherground4x4.com/2/diy-high-line-hood-mod-for-cheap. Has anyone done this? My plan would be to do this to my Jeep but make sure I do it in such a way that normal people don't look twice and everything appears stock. Thoughts? |

that is really a cool concept Casey. I like that. Looks much better than stock. I'd do that over the $500 fender any dy of the week.  |

Genright makes a nice high line fender kit. 35's on stock height. That higherground fender relocation looks like a lot of work and you will still have stock jeep fenders that will rot out and fold like beer cans.

ya, its more than just extra flex. when you bash that fender into a rock or tree it wil still fold. there are a lot of DIY kits out there for a couple hundred bucks |

I searched for the link Casey and I can't find it, IIRC he had either a yj or tj, XJ springs on the rear and he moved his front fenders up like a hi-line. he posted on here before we had a build section and I recalling seeing the rig for sale not too long after he stated building it. IIRC he lived around you in like littleton or weston.

Now the question is, should I do it? Or lift?
I have finally decided on 285/75R16 as my tire size. I don't know if I should cut and do highline or just lift. I know I want to keep the stock fender flares untill they get torn off or this isn't my daily driver anymore.
On a side note, I wheeled at a certain maternal trail this past weekend and didn't even get stuck. I am on highway tires and it was rainy. So that makes me think that for all the wheeling I am going to do maybe I should just leave the jeep alone.

Get some good skid plates, and wheel it. Then lift it later.

Way to much buck and not enough bang for aev stuff. As already mentioned look for some body/drivetrain armor...jeepforum readily has tank skids, t case skids, for sale. Maybe spend for a sweet set of corners and rock sliders since those don't seem to be on the secondary market very often.
Wheel it and enjoy for a season while planning out your lift and tire plan while replenishing your funds.
