Bosch is made by Purolater and STP by Champion Labs. I would choose the Bosch over the STP because the Bosch has metal end caps unlike the STP that has paper.
Actually there are only a few manufactures that make oil filters:
Champion Labs makes: AC Delco, and STP among others.
Dana/Wix makes: Carquest, NAPA, WIX
Honeywell makes: Fram, Pennzoil, and Quaker State
Purolator makes: Bosch, Motorcraft, PowerFlo, ProLine, Purolator among others

wow, thanks for this chuck. i started using them a while ago because my grandfather liked them. they must have been good at one time. i'm done with them, i'll also let my grandfather know too. i think he switched to stp actually for his last oil change.

I try to stick with Wix or Mobil 1. The local Auto Value store has Wix filters at a great price!

I know quite a few people that swear by fram, and I agree that they are garbage, but have never had a problem and have had trucks run to 300k on 3000 mile oil changes.

I've seen a lot of Fram filters balloon on engines without any internal problems. Also when I would put them in the filter crusher, they would crush with ease. I like Wix, Baldwin or Donaldson.

i know a lot of guys on here think jeepforum is a joke, but this was a post on there recently by a guy who seems to be like the posi of jf talking about fram filters. they invited him and a few others out to their R&D facility to check the place out. they basically admitted that their quality had been junk over the past years but showed how they have tried to improve. they even explained their use of paper end caps on some of the models.
not saying i'm gonna start buying fram filters (though i do like the grippy texture) but it's some food for thought.
Eating crow, Fram oil filters, and my visit to Fram's R&D facility in Dayton Ohio

The article didn’t change my mind one bit. I have cut open a few fram filters in the past 5 years when doing an oil change on someone elses car and some (not all) were collapsed or torn. I’m running an oil bath air filter on some of my Jeeps and I can expect about 150k before a rebuild. A fram filter is better then an oil bath and fram tough guard is better then a standard fram but Wix is better then all three IMO.
It’s interesting the article mentions that fram test against leading competitors but fails to mention who they are when Wix will go head to head publicly with fram.
“Nitrile is not as desirable to use in this job as silicone is but keep in mind Fram only use Nitrile in their entry-level lowest cost Extra Guard filter. Nitrile only starts to harden at around 258 degrees so for most conditions, it is ok. However, silicone is good to at least 400 degrees. For that reason, I personally would stick with an oil filter that uses a silicone anti-drainback valve. With Fram, that includes the Tough Guard, Extended Guard, and High Mileage filters.”
Let’s face it, most who buy fram by the entry level extra guard with Nitrile. If items are made of lesser quality and consumers continue to purchase them they will continue to make them.
The 3000 oil change, now that's another can of worms.

What about the Mopar ones they sell at walmart? I use those...
But then again I ran out of oil on the highway on my old jeep and it ran fine so does it really matter?
