my bead locks
«

well i finally got off my arss and im getting a set of weld on locks for the tire's. they were orddered around three weeks ago ( maybe longer ) and they must of been on the slow boat from china. but the brown truck stopped in front of the house today.
i had the rims prepped for welding for over a week and 10 minutes before i weld the first lock ring on i discover that the air fitting will be smack dab in the way
all this time they sat there waiting for the rings and now i figure it out. well i went to the tire shop to see if they had a set of valve stems that are bent at a 80-90* angel but they only have them for ALU rims witch use's a different packing.
so it was time for some type of cutting or notching, something was going to have a new hole somware dammit. so this is what i came up with. i drilled a 2" hole with the MAG drill and a hole saw ( man i love my MAG drill ), i will drill new hole's for the valve stems near or in the center of the rim. the stems will be like the one's on my old rims, they will be far away from the rocks.
i dont know if im going to add a piece of 2" dom tube around the hole or if its needed.
here are the pics, nice and fuzzy like rich likes them

This was me option #2, looks great! are you gonna weld up the old holes or just put a flush valve in there?
I had the same problem when I welded my locks on. I found the 90* valve stems on summit racing. They tuck up nice behind the ring, actually hard to see, but easy to get to.

if have time tonight i will need to fill the old hole's shut and drill new one's towards the center of the rim. tuesday i will start welding the lock rings on. for the life of me john i could not find them at the tire shop, they had them in a catalog but i wanted to get them now. i want to have the bead locks for the OCT run, if there was no time line then i would probally just had them order the 90* one's.
but i figure my old rims have hole's in them, yes there stamped and have a ring for renforcement. so i might add the 2" DOM, but we will see.

Jason, if you order anything from Summit, it will be here before the weeks end. If you order Wednesday, it will be here on Friday.
Example...I ordered stuff Thursday night at 9PM. They ship it at 12AM Friday morning. I get my package today at 1:30.

no great lakes offroad, last order i do with them
i agree summit is fast, but im kinda past that point now. the hole's i drilled will put the stem's near the center of the rim, perfect in my book.
ya it never go's as planned. good thing my garage is like the an episode of the A-team, i allays have toarchs, a welder drills and plenty of steel.

got two welded this morning. i figured out im going to use air stems for a skid steer tire. they are low profiled and are metal, so they can take a beating. going to the BOBCAT dealer today and see if i can get some.
here are the PIC's
jason.
and those are my crap shoe's that i weld in, so thats why there all ripped up.

thanks mitch.
i did fill the old holes with weld and i drilled the new hole's to 7/16". there going to be re-drilled to 5/8's if i get the skid steer stem's. thats the size of the one i have now, but im double checking before i drill them.

Looks great, I tried to look for my thread on the weld on bead locks I did, couldn't find it, but the part number for the valves was in there, they were ordered, and received with in a day or two, only cost a couple bucks for a set.
Also there is a really good chance they will leak. it takes about a month or so, but one of mine will leak very slowly from 5-6 psi to flat. It's not the weld, it is just imperfections in the tire's inner bead.

First off I don't work for them in any manner. this is the second time i've put their name on here in an hour. East coast truck in brockton. stocks all different kinds of valves on the shelf. cheap. they also have a store in pembroke. no idea where you are.

thanks but i went to BOBCAT dealer and picked up 4 low profile stems. if they can be ground up buy rocks and dirt on a skid steer then i think they will work fine for what we do. a big plus is they way i have them tucked into inner section of the rim, so should never see any dammage im hooping. they are not cheap around 5.00 dollars each but my junk pile is worth it

yep i say its in the center of them rim, really there towrds the outer edge but will clear the brake's. this is how i did the rims that are on there now, but with no bead locks and i didn't have to drill big hole's for access.
buisy day today so no work done, saterday i want to drill the 5/8's hole's and finish welding the other two. then i can paint them, im thinking HOT pink.
