my roommates MJ shakes
«

my roommate got a 92 comanche and he has been having problems with death wobble.
it has a straight axel in the front and its a 2wd
it has, i believe, a 2in lift, not sure if body or suspension, shocks with coil overs.
he has the death wobble when he drives at least once every time he drives it.
he said he drove the highway at 85 and didnt get the death wobble but on his way home it shook so bad a corner of his windshield popped out. steering get tough to controle when the truck shakes.
can you help him out for me?

but on a serious note, there are many things that can cause it,
loose joints,
ball joints
tie rod ends
unbalanced tires
loose steering box
sway bar links
not enough castor
loose pahnard link
rong length pahnard
uncentered axle
or a combination of just a little or even all of the above mentioned issues.
I have seen frozen U joints do strange things too which could also not help the situation. google death wobble all you want but the only way to fix it is to get under there start checking EVERYTHING, replace whats worn and replace what you thing might be worn. and you might just might fix the problem.

alright. i just went and checked some of your ideas and the camber on the front axle is out a bit. the stablizer is there it seems slightly small for the jeep. :/
honestly it seems pretty tight and clean under there. no rust just dirt.
like i did say the front axle is a straight axle. dont they creat some wobble? i swear i remember something about those axles doing that. and i looked at the axle shafts and they seem, and i know its by design, a bit thin at the axles ends.
oh and one more thing that might help a little bit, not sure, but its 2wd.
so it has the front axle set up for 4wd, but there is no t-case, or secondary shaft.

rong length pahnard
In my tj, all death wobble was panhard bar frame side bracket issues.
He needs.to go over his entire front end in a methodical manner. Hey it a jeep thing

2X'S
i've dealt with so much DD it's crazy. currently my axle side LCA bolts come loose, my tires are unbalanced because of wavy sidewalls and my tie rod joints are shot. i get DD between 55-65mph. sucks! but apparently its like Ian said or just empty every pocket.
if everything is tight, get the tires balanced.

well we actually found out what is wrong. and it turns out, one of the motor mounts is broken, and the straight axle is also broken, because the previous owner had done the mods to it, adding a pumpkin, assumably one of the shafts is broken or a bad diff.
at any rate, my roomate is geting rid of it due to lack of money to fix, and its not safe.
