I just install a used sub and amp in the motorhome.  It works fine for about a minute and than slowly dies off.  The amp lights are still on but nothing from the sub.  I'll turn the radio off and on and it works fine for about a minute.

I have power coming right off the battery and the ground is back to the battery.  The model of the amp is Kenwood excelon. Kacx201t if that helps.

are you using the rca pre amp outputs or the line inputs? use one or the other, not both.

also, did you set the gain at all?

I have 1 sub and did the cross over like you said.  If your doing this should the sub be switched to mono or stereo?

you should be using the bridge outputs from the amp to the sub, and yes, set the amp to Mono. Input sensitivity is the gain, turn it almost all the way down when initially turning on an amp. as music is played, slowly turn it up. I generally liked to do that when the total radio volumn was where I would generally listen to it. if the sub starts to distort of sound like poop, turn the gain back slightly.

DO you have an old speaker that you can use as a test speaker?

Also I just noticed you grounded to the battery, ground it to the chassis some where you can get some clean metal.

Try a short ground 12 inches or so to bare metal with a self tapping screw.

Ok changed the ground to the chassis and turned down the gain all the way and still dies off in a minutes time.  I don't understand it, it works great than dies.  I even tried it with out the bridge and same thing?

It's working now.  There is a switch on it BMS and BMS+6.  It was on the +6 so I switched it to just BMS and it seems to stay on.

hope it stays fixed for you. used electronics (especially these things) are usually abused as I have found.

What sub do you have? Wondering about sub vs amp ohm, i doubt that is your problem but am curious. If you are near me and your problem continues we can swap in my amp to see if that fixes your problem.

Mitch, it's an Kenwood excelon amp and Infinity reference series sub.

you really only have to be concerned with ohms when you are getting into dual voice coils and wiring in series or parrallel, single voice coil and bridgeable amp, kinda point and shoot set up.

didnt see any sub references - didnt think it would be his problem anyway. I suspect faulty amp (if there are no ground issues).
