trailer question

my trailer currently only has brakes on one axle. I need to service the brakes and bearings, I was thinking of adding brakes to the axle that currently does not have them. DO I simply tap into the wires that go to the current axle? my controler says it is capabile of controling 3 axles. is there something else I need to do?
