I'm thinking about adding some speakers to my cj-7 for around town cruising.  I'm thinking I should get waterproof ones as I dont have any top on it.

Anyone own waterproof ones for their boat and have ideas on whats good/not?

I dont need anything crazy, but something to put on a little hillbilly delux would be nice.

kicker makes marine speakers that are pretty reasonably priced, some around 50 bucks.

honestly I bought the kit from port supply like 5 years ago that came with 2 speakers AND a CD deck for 129 bucks and those speakers have endured the winters, being directly sprayed with salt water fish guts and fresh water regularly and as bad as they now look they still work wonderfully.
its electrinics that get wet. to me its the same as those people that put snorkles on they're jeeps and want to drive them under water and deep mud. its putting something in an enviroment that its going to HATE. so get cheap because no matter how much you spend you'll prob be replacing it before you want to.my opinion

I hum to my self

there is a west marina in woburn, they have a pretty extensive inventory of marine grade stereo equipment. I would be equally concerned for the deck as I am for the speakers.

A popular option that I see a lot on pirate is the wake boards speaker pods. We have a set on out boat, been there for years and they still sound great, offer a full range of sound but they are pretty pricey.

we have the predecessor to these

with a single Bazooka tube sub.

Also, look into side by side speaker kits. they have them on ebay.

bobby, there is a west marine in dedham right at the rotary on 128, they as john said have a good selection of marine audio.  Also there is a place on rt 1 in norwood called osprey wireless, he can get alpine marine stuff, I was looking into that for my FJ.  You will probably pay a little more through him but he will put it in for you if you want and his customer service is second to none.  He has done several things on my truck and I will continue to use him for audio/light/misc electronics for my heeps.
