I fit 31" x 10.5 BFG AT's on my wifes 96 limited stock, on stock xj wheels, rubs in the rear a little when weighed down and the suspension squishes, and rubs in the front at full lock hard on the control arms, but other than that no prob, 30's would probably fit better.
gives it a nice meaner look than the stock sized tires, and there is no noticeable change in accelerating or anything ( the 5.2 handles them with ease)

to the best of my knowledge, 30x9.5 is what is recommended as largest size not lifted.

JP Magazine ran this a few months back if you look through the charts it shows that 29" (235/75) fits without any issue.  30" fit with minor trimming or lowering of the bumpstops...

3.75 is ideal, 4 may rub a tiny bit with 12.5s mine did. just when you turn the wheel a lot

do the 15x8 with 3.75 with 33s.

so what do you guys think? is it better to have more offset or use spacers? just a general question.

i ended up buying 3/4" spacers but the lugs i have stick out a bit and i didn't feel safe riding with them, i ended up using a 3lb hammer and bending in the upper spring mount bucket in and all is good.
