Not 100% sure ill pick something up, but im kind of in the market for a project CJ or Yj. I got rid of my TJ, and wished i didnt. Trying to keep a budget of under $1500. Trying to stay away from frame rot, major issues, major body rust/ rot, as close to stock as possible, and i prefer it running. Small project I can mess around with when time allows. You guys always seem to score deals, and i can never find anything.  Thanks

Yeah i know, 1500 for all that is kind of a shot in the dark, but you never know. Id be willing to spend a little  more for the right vehicle, but not to much

I am all talk...I was offered $5K cash 3 years ago and turned it down.  Where are you from?

You need to except rot though for $1500 these guys are right you can probably find a fairly decent frame and running engine but the tub on most any yj and especially cj will need repair.  My tub is a 94 yj converted to cj and I have had to do rot repair three times already and it's herculined top and bottom  Tongue

Yeah after first hand expierence of frame rust and rot on my TJ im more aware of what im looking for, plus im looking for something within my experience level of modifications. Ive been contemplating buying a jeep to keep my xterra out of the trails. But the xterra is another option of making into a weekend wheeler. Decisions decisions

cj & yj's are much cheaper to modify & lift as well as find parts cheaper I'd assume.

there is a Black YJ on 31 that has been sitting for quite some time.  You could ask the owner if it's for sale.  Been there like 2 years.  If I were in the market for one I would have asked by now lol.  It's on City Depot road near charleton (take a right at Ronnies and eventully you will see it on the left).

Never get into an argument with an idiot, he will just bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.

any luck on that 86 cj you looked at?
I know where there is a really nice cj7 w fiber glass body.  looks nice and has been sitting for a long time.  the lady's husband had a stroke or something and it put him out of commission.  i guess he had a crap load of cars including an el camino, trans am, and this cj7.  My bro in law met her through a craigslist ad as she was trying to sell some of his stuff to get $$ for mediacl bills and his care.  He had 15 other cars she sold for $100 each and some other guy beat Jay to it and had cash on hand so she sold them all to him and he and his buddy spent a week taking 3 cars a day to Linders junk yard for scrap metal.  He was bragging that he made about $1800 after fuel costs so he bought a new car trailer and winch.  We saw him at harbor freight a few weeks back bolting his new winch down in the parking lot.

The lasy never calls back so it might take a bit to get a hold of her but I will see what I can do to see if its still for sale and if we can come check it out.  I personally have only seen a few pics of it Jay took with his cell phone but it looked to be in exceptional shape.
It was a landmine of $$ for him.

Well anyway Jay got the el camino in trade for his labor fixing the pace car trans am for her son or something and as far as I know the CJ still sits there.  I guess it was garaged for many years and is in really decent shape.  Not sure about the frame but worth the look if its still there.  She lives somewhere in Leicester.  I will call him this morning and maybe we can go check it out.  Jay almost had it for $400 cash but then her son showed up and told her not to sell it as he thought it was worth at least $1500.  I think you could get it for that $1500 or better price range.

86 CJ7, 242 I6, 5-spd, 110K miles

Starts right up, Runs, Drives, 4x4 works, 90% tread on tires, etc.

Power steering is leaking, driver's door handle is loose, and exhaust is loud.

Rust in usual locations, but nothing horrible.

Comes with bikini top, also.

More information is available if you come look at it.

$1500 firm

Might be the starter your looking for.
(this is not the one I noted in my prior post.  I am still looking into that one for you)
