Title: Re: YJ rebuild/upgrade Post by: navman on June 18, 2009, 01:10:55 AM and a couple more.
Title: Re: YJ rebuild/upgrade Post by: Mitch on June 18, 2009, 07:03:52 AM wow.. THATS A LOT AT ONE TIME!!! Nice work so far! Looks really good! Keep the updates coming!
Title: Re: YJ rebuild/upgrade Post by: BiGdAdDeE on June 18, 2009, 07:51:31 AM really impressive. shoot me your address so I can come check it out as you get further. that'd be cool . Very nice welds. You doing all those beads on your own? N.I.C.E!!! Title: Re: YJ rebuild/upgrade Post by: jps4jeep on June 18, 2009, 08:26:14 AM Is this a different frame or same frame as the red YJ you had?
also what are your axle choices? Looks great! Title: Re: YJ rebuild/upgrade Post by: navman on June 18, 2009, 09:11:08 AM Different frame, the original red frame was shot and picked up a new one, had it sandblasted and then por15 it. I'm putting in a ford 8.8 in the rear and keeping the d30 up front, I already put an arb and alloy usa 30 splines in it last year so I'll stick with it for now. My buddy Kenny did all the welding, he makes it look so easy its rediculous. BigD were you at Klems last night for the car show?
Title: Re: YJ rebuild/upgrade Post by: Ian on June 18, 2009, 09:56:21 AM pretty spiffy. when do you think you will be back on the trail?

Funny you asked because I was supose to go with my mother and father in law. Not sure if you've seen their cars but Jean has a 64 mini cooper all original with the british flag on the roof. And he dries his 76 mg. I did go by last night though and remembered it was starting up down there. Probably go next week for sure. I have put my CJ in that show a few times but usually just to get a good parking spot on the grass!!! lol Title: Re: YJ rebuild/upgrade Post by: mika401 on June 18, 2009, 11:05:25 AM Very Sweet!
Do you still need to use the trackbar up front with those links? I'm guessing the rear will be spring over? Title: Re: YJ rebuild/upgrade Post by: navman on June 18, 2009, 01:07:55 PM Thanks, completely new trac bar setup up front. The rear is staying sua but moved back and with the rear shackle mounts under the frame for a little more lift to match the front. Hopefully be back out soon, I waited as long as I could to get all the parts I needed before disabling the red jeep. Now that the frame is all welded its time to thrash, and yes I did send off the original with flying colors.

Title: Re: YJ rebuild/upgrade Post by: BiGdAdDeE on June 18, 2009, 03:36:08 PM ;D Poppa wheelie ;D
Title: Re: YJ rebuild/upgrade Post by: Twisty on June 20, 2009, 11:23:52 PM That looks awesome, Mark!
Its going to be a whole different animal. 8) Title: Re: YJ rebuild/upgrade Post by: jps4jeep on June 22, 2009, 08:14:06 AM Thanks, completely new trac bar setup up front. What I was thinking... I haven't been there since 2002 I think. probably way different than I remember Title: Re: YJ rebuild/upgrade Post by: mika401 on June 22, 2009, 08:27:47 AM Yup its a good run for guys with 33's & open. Not so much beyond that.
Title: Re: YJ rebuild/upgrade Post by: navman on June 22, 2009, 11:19:05 AM Yup its a good run for guys with 33's & open. Not so much beyond that. All depends on how you ATTACK it. ;D It's not very technical, but I stood it up again on the second obstacle and snapped the rear spiders in half, then had to finish the run in front wheel drive. That made it more interesting. the first obstacle http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_Dm7SW2yFc the second obstacle, you'll hear it snap loud and clear http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ngYUu7pNYPc Title: Re: YJ rebuild/upgrade Post by: BiGdAdDeE on June 22, 2009, 11:22:57 AM dam dude were you ainn 4HI? :D
I think the snapage might have been due to the fact that your foot never left the gas pedal that never left the floor board. ;) slow in Lo I think you'd have been able to save the snap Title: Re: YJ rebuild/upgrade Post by: navman on June 22, 2009, 11:26:06 AM That was 4wlo. With a tired old 4 cyl, 4.10 gears, and 35" tires, low and slow = stall. Plus it was its last outing so I wanted to make it a good one.
Title: Re: YJ rebuild/upgrade Post by: jps4jeep on June 22, 2009, 11:59:36 AM well, place look pretty much the same, little rutted.
Looked like fun. Title: Re: YJ rebuild/upgrade Post by: J.T. Woody on June 22, 2009, 01:03:56 PM I like that 2nd vid. LOL
Title: Re: YJ rebuild/upgrade Post by: BiGdAdDeE on June 22, 2009, 02:17:40 PM it was its last outing so I wanted to make it a good one. ;) It'll go Slow in Low soon enough when you get it back out there. :D Title: Re: YJ rebuild/upgrade Post by: jonnyri on June 22, 2009, 07:31:22 PM I was impressed with the frame build... after the vids I know why you need it!
Title: Re: YJ rebuild/upgrade Post by: mika401 on June 22, 2009, 07:40:11 PM Man what tire pressure were you running?
There was like 0 flex in those sidewalls Title: Re: YJ rebuild/upgrade Post by: navman on June 22, 2009, 08:31:50 PM 10 psi, with the lack of crawl ability I left them up a bit so I didn't kill the sidewalls with the rims. I'm sure the lack of rear shocks didn't help either. I still can't believe the old frame survived what it did considering it's condition. I still don't know about the whole low and slow thing, I'm definately more a point and shoot guy. ;D
Title: Re: YJ rebuild/upgrade Post by: BiGdAdDeE on June 22, 2009, 09:51:11 PM You definately get where your going without wasting precious time. :woot:
vids were cool though. Hope the suspension in your seat works better than under your rig or your gonna need back surgery sooner than later with those hard hitting bumps Title: Re: YJ rebuild/upgrade Post by: jps4jeep on June 23, 2009, 08:05:01 AM I still don't know about the whole low and slow thing, I'm definately more a point and shoot guy. ;D It'll go Slow in Low soon enough when you get it back out there. :D Little from column A little from column B, there is no one better method. Title: Re: YJ rebuild/upgrade Post by: navman on July 16, 2009, 11:42:22 PM A little update pics
Title: Re: YJ rebuild/upgrade Post by: Twisty on July 17, 2009, 12:23:14 AM Looks great!
However, I do not think that the D30 will be happy under there for very long. Title: Re: YJ rebuild/upgrade Post by: J.T. Woody on July 17, 2009, 09:51:09 AM Verrrrry niiiiice.
Title: Re: YJ rebuild/upgrade Post by: Mitch on July 17, 2009, 09:56:39 AM nice indeed. if you plan on "point and shoot" with that I hope you wear a helmet.
Title: Re: YJ rebuild/upgrade Post by: BiGdAdDeE on July 17, 2009, 10:12:57 AM I just went by your pad to escape the high traffic of the 4th celebration.....an easy escape was to head back down 67 from the center after sitting there for 1/2 hour...then take the scenic route behind lashaway ;)
But I saw the red tub outside. Not a good time to stop ;D but thanks for the updated pics they look incredible. Well done. Not sure about the 30 either with the mods but you'll see. good thing is parts are everywhere for that 30 including my basement!! ;) Title: Re: YJ rebuild/upgrade Post by: Posimoto on July 17, 2009, 10:35:05 AM Looks good!
Title: Re: YJ rebuild/upgrade Post by: navman on July 22, 2009, 01:16:19 AM I stuck with the d30 since I already put an arb in it as well as alloy usa 30 spline shafts. If I have a problem, swapping to another axle actually isn't too difficult with the way RockKrawler has it set up. I got the rear axle bolted in, after the tub goes on I can set the pinion and weld it up. Getting closer!!
BigD and X BOB, and any one else for that matter, If your passing through and see the garage open or the lights on, stop in.
