Bob, your tires are already off the ground real easy to check the gearing unless there is a need to change the fluid.

Mark the tire at the 6:00 position with some tape or chock, then mark the driveshaft. Turn the tire exactly 1 full turn (posi diff). Count the number of times the driveshaft turns.

2-3/4 turns of the driveshaft = 2.73, just past 3 turns = 3.08, 3-1/3 = 3.31, just past 3-1/2 = 3.55, 3-3/4 = 3.73, just past 4 = 4.10 or 4.11.

Regarding gearing, and assuming the gearing is stock GM... It could be anywhere from 2.72 to 3.73 unless it came from a COPO type car (yenko, baldwin motion etc..)it came with 4.11 gears.  Use the spin the yoke to tire method to get you into the ball park.
