Mass land access commitee
« on: January 07, 2007, 09:28:35 AM »
I would like to welcome Ryan Schneider from Freedom Trail Riders as the new MA Access Team Leader.

PLease welcome Ryan as he assumes the reigns of the MA team.

Ryan has created a Master Plan for MA Land Access below:

Massachusetts Land Access Master Plan

· Goal: To increase the total amount of available trails and increase public perception within the Commonwealth as to the good we can do.

· Objectives needed to obtain goal

· Cowls land: We need to locate and document where this land is and which parcels are compatible with our sport.

· Utilize Members who already have a relationship and information on these properties..

· Encourage those members to further bond and cement relationships.

· Use online resources to locate parcels that need to be scouted.

· Use delegates to acquire volunteers to scout areas.

· Build alliances with other outdoor recreation venues.

· Establish contact and relationships with other motorized use groups and associations.

· Possible share of trails and responsibility that goes along with it.

· Treat cowls land as public lands and become the caretakers of said properties.

· The structure written for the use of these properties will never allow exclusive rights to the NEA, very much as the eventual opening of State lands will not be exclusive to the NEA. Therefore I propose that these lands be treated as public lands with the NEA becoming caretakers along with the alliances formed with other use groups.

· Limit use of overused trails within the commonwealth.

· With the opening of new trails on the Cowls properties this should not be a very hard sell to member clubs.

· This act of policing ourselves, if done correctly will show the non motorized recreation community that we do care about the overuse of trails.

Public Perception:
· Get the off road community to attend more non wheeling events to show the general public that we are here and here to stay. Ie. Parades, local truck days, Off road rallies General M&G

· Work with public relations committee to accomplish this task.

OFR:
· Directive from NEA to remain enforced until such time that more information becomes available.

· Obtain maps that show closer boundaries than currently obtained.

· Acquire funds for survey of said road.

· Get DCR to commit in writing their policy concerning road.

· Continue building relationship between the wheeling community and the Town of Florida.

· Possible “safety patrols” to limit “renegade wheelers” on road.

· Attempt to limit member clubs to one run per year on this property.

MaBell

· Ask member clubs to limit runs to one per year

· Schedule trail clean-up and maintenance.

· Basically leave this property alone except for maintenance and clean-ups.

State Owned Property

· Ultimately it is the goal of this plan to rescind the thousand pound rule currently enforced by the commonwealth.

· With the efforts stated above if we can show them what we can do for them they may be more receptive to our wants and needs.

Anyone interested in this commitee or if you have questions, please pm me, i am on the team even though i live in RI. Thanks!

Dad always said "If it has boobs or spark plugs it will be fun AND will cause you problems."
