I was looking into rafting but didn't have the time, next year I may go for 2 weeks so I can.
This year I had the opportunity to do Black Bear Pass, and Poughkeepsie Gulch 2 trails I was looking forward doing. I flew out with my cousin and we rented a tj barbie jeep (more on this later).
We wheeled 8-10 hours a day covering anywhere from 30 miles to 90 miles a day. Trails are listed below in order.
Monday, July 27th - Engineer Pass, Animas Forks Ghost Town, California Gulch and California Pass (didn't stop at the pass), Hurricane Pass ,Corkscrew Pass and got onto Highway 550.
Tuesday, July 28th - Blackbear Pass, Bridal Veil Falls was the 2nd highest waterfall in Colorado. Came back over Imogene Pass
Wednesday July 29th - Drove to Silverton, Stony Pass, Crossed Pole Creek and then the Rio Grand River. Beartown site (but no sign of a town). Continued on to Kite Lake.
Thursday July 30 - Lower Engineer Pass trail. Poughkeepsie Gulch. Stopped at Lake Como for lunch. Hurricane Pass. Saw a '67 Lincoln in Minnehaha Basin. Went to Velocity Basin under Storm Peak. Went to Prospect Gulch where we saw a steam engine in an old mining building.
We landed in Durago On Saturday the 25th and drove the “million dollar highyway” to Ouray about 70 miles (Rt550).
