Would having a rear steer axle be more unstable/dangerous if it isn't 100% centered (not the pumpkin...the tires after turning), and tracking straight?  Especially when going 100mph through the desert?

its a simple risk vs reward.  There is a lot of risk and little reward.

it costs a lot, has a bunch of extra parts to break, adds a whole level of complexity to setup properly (alignment becomes a nightmare) can be very dangerous at speed, adds a bunch of unsprung weight (HORRIBLE for suspension tuning.)

for what? a little bit better mobility?  there are no cones to dodge or points to avoid.

I know of two successful go fast rigs with rear steer.  Both of them either have built or are building another one that does NOT have it.

Todd, basing a decision off of what ian johnson does is a pretty bad example.  Nice guy yes,  Racer No.

jon i was using him as an example of someone using an offset rear, whether or not he can race was not something i was addressing.  he had a very capable shop helping him build that rig.

Exactly what I wanted to say but put in much better words.

basically jon stated what we both wrote
