Before you consider heating, I would recommend properly insulating.  We did the whole blown in cellulose when we first bought our house and it made a crap ton of a difference regarding cold weather and heat retention.  Probably would be the best solution with out tearing the walls out.  Also if you have the state perform an energy audit, they will give you deep discounts on equipment and services.
Ted (you know Ted) just had it done, the savings over the general contracting quotes was over 60% as the state subsidied the cost. 

Also consider geothermal and solar heating.  Both cost more, but the state has been offering massive incentives plus long term savings might make it more cost efficient.  I just am not sure how long long term is.

i tried to get an audit done last year because what you said is exactly what everyone says and all the mass save commercials. But they wouldn't come out and do it for some reason. i cannot remember why now but i remember it being stupid.

i plan to eventually insulate and such but i don't see it happening before i get some sort of heat in there this year. i know its counter intuitive to do so but its a time issue with me. i need to keep working in the garage, not ON it in order to pay for this stuff.

another option i didn't mention is for one of those portable electric space heaters just to keep me going right now and it can be used in the future elsewhere.

i've had three people come and quote me for having a hot water modine hot dawg unit put in, two of them quoted me to install a gas fired modine rather than the water one after telling them and going over with them exactly what i wanted done. They even measured for pex, then quoted me for metalbestos chimney. And the other guy i told him i was all set when he couldn't tell the difference between the copper and steel pipes that are in my current system. claimed if they had solder joints on them they couldn't be steel. so they had to be copper. Had no clue what he was looking at. So i gave up at that point. seems plumbing licenses are given away as easy as EBT these days.

Last option would be to wear a coat and gloves and stop being a Puss... Just sayin'

wanted to post some updated pictures now that i'm all finished up. only thing left to do is heat but thats going to hold of till funds are there, till then i bought a $100 5600Watt electric heater that takes the edge off. its not cheap to run but worth it for the amount of time im out there.



all copper piping for the air. mounted overhead.


hose reel under the bench and mounted on a swivel mount on the wall.


regulators and oilers built inline, I keep the oiler for the big hose reel empty in case i want to use it to spray paint.



And heres where all the power is managed, 3 phase generator mounted up high behind the garage door track to run the bridgeport.
100Amp 20 circuit panel. Also have a 50Amp 75' 220V extension cord so i can drag the MIG out in the yard if needed.
Compressor is wired to a 15A 220 plug for now because it will eventually live outside in its own little home, nice and quiet like. most of the power was run in surface mounted conduit.

yes, the garage project was priority, fired off the plasma a couple weeks ago then had a few hardware issues i've been dealing with, put a new hard drive in the driver laptop and shes back up and running yesterday.

your hat must be down in the Bilge somewhere. I have to clean that place up a bit, get all the winter stuff put away. if i find it i will throw it aside.
John if your bringing me a file to write code to make sure its in .DXF, and my computer cannot read your 8" floppy disc anymore. only the newer 3 1/2" floppys will work.
