So i recently started moving my workspace from my old shop to my house.Figured I would share my work. My garage is an attached 2 bay, 20'x24'. Not exactly the best size workspace for my needs, but at the moment its going to have to work. It is attatched but the entrance is not directly into house so i don't have to worry about dust and smell.
The majority of the work i'll be doing will just be metal work, I don't plan to pull a vehicle in or expect to even be able to. heck if i could even get my truck into the garage to change oil i wouldn't be able to open the hood anyways. the ceilings are 8'. Walls are lath and plaster/browncoat.
Goals-
-start with mud and paint. Going to use an oil based exterior high gloss paint so if i happen to lean on it with a greasy hand i can easily wipe it off. It will also help with lighting. Pure white for the upper portion of the walls and a Hugger Orange for the bottom part. then paint the foundation black. all high gloss.
- Electrical, needed a subpanel in garage so had to upgrade the house first. had a 200Amp service done and a 100Amp panel installed in the garage.
I will also be putting 3Phase in the garage for some of my machinery. as well as a 75' extension cord in case i want to take my MIG into the backyard or even roll the TIG out into the driveway if i need to. Installing 4, 8 foot t-8 fixtures and 6, 4 footers. Thats 28 bulbs. I think its going to be enough. I want 0 blind spots and no shadowing. I'm sick of working in the dark.
I'm getting rid of as much open storage as possible, i hate how cluttered it looks.. so i'm not hanging a bunch of shelving on the walls, everything that can will be going into a cabinet. or under my workbenches.
-Plenty of wall plugs, dedicated workstation plugs, air, and lighting.
-HEAT, i'm still deciding between a forced hot water system or a ductless split. I may wait till the summer and just do it at my leisure, since the winter is almost over.
Hot water would require another circ pump and zone installed on the boiler, and proper plumbing installed.would have to leave it on so pipes dont freeze in winter.
ductless split would require a small hole in side of garage with a small condenser mounted outside. It would provide adequate heat and even AC in the summer but starts losing efficiency below 10* or so. can shut it off if not using it. no pipes to freeze.
still in the air on that.
-Floor treatment?
A few pictures.
This is the before. you can see the wall storage and how cluttered it is, that is all going.

moved everything to the center and got the walls prepped for paint.

Paint begins, white goes on first.

then orange primer

and orange.

and black

a picture of it during the daytime. The lines might look broken but i think its the way i took the picture.

and at night

I HATE PAINTING, i'm glad that part of the garage is finished.
after that was all set i made a trip to the old garage and brought some of the cabinets and tool boxes over.
had a little help from Will, he's been a lot of help during the project. unfortunately cannot trust him with a paintbrush haha.

Someday when i feel i need to i may paint the cabinets to match.

I built 4x4 frames to put under all the cabinets that way i could rest them up on top of the edge of the foundation and as close to the walls as possible. I also painted those. it raised them off the floor a bit and helps when sweeping around them.

After a majority of the large items are moved in(not yet organized) the place looks like this.

Hardly workable yet. Still need to move the flat chassis table and the bridgeport over. and have to do some work to get the benches to fit where i want them.
I moved my little lathe and it fits perfectly atop my old craftsman toolbox, so i decided to keep that instead of sell it.

At this point i opted against any type of floor treatment for a few reasons.
I'm not finished yet, I will take some more pictures. since this last posted photo was taken i have done quite a bit. The lights are all done and they are perfect. The phase converter is all mounted but not wired yet, and the bench has been moved to its new home. still waiting for a nice day to move the bridgeport.
