3 link rear suspension
« on: December 11, 2015, 11:00:00 AM »
Hi guys, I have been thinking of converting my Clayton style 4 link to a 3 link with a track-bar. Mainly to give more room for a larger and quieter exhaust.

It seems not too many people make a 3 link rear, has anyone seen it done or have any suggestions?

I found a build that has a 3 link rear. Curious if the 3rd link has to be centered on the pumpkin, or if it can be mounted to one side without any negative effects during acceleration or braking.

I believe if everything is strong enough it shouldn't matter where the 3rd link is.  It doesn't matter on the front.  Just use a strong frame mount, brace the axle end and use big joints and big bolts.  I would weld the tubes to the pumpkin and make a nice truss to tie everything together.

What exhaust are you running with the clayton setup? I had two options and went the louder route (wish I hadn't) regular magnaflow sized universal cat and 10 series flowmaster.

If you do a new full length exhaust with a small cat (universal spun magnaflow) with o2 bung welded in after and then a hushpower muffler from flowmaster, this should be relatively quiet driving with decent tone

Instead of the flowmaster muffler, do this

I have a spintech 11" muffler with a cat from a Saab I think. That combination allows the muffler and cat to start and end under the skid plate / crossmember.

I will try and get some pictures this weekend.

Check your muffler bearings, they get loud after 2000km.

I think I saw you last week in traffic on RT3 south near Burlington.... That is all.

Does your exhaust exit out the back or just dump after the skid??   If it's just dumping, I would try to route it out the back, it'll help more then you think.

What he said, if its dumping underneath theres your issue. Also that muffler is a beast, get something quieter as well.

Yeah john that was me. I have been driving the jeep everyday the last few months.

The exhaust dumps out in the right spot. I think I will call spin-tech to see what they have that will quieter next week.

Can you move the cat up and get a different brand muffler? Maybe not as much of a "race" muffler?

Could also look to add a resonator to the setup
