Driveshafts
« on: May 20, 2015, 07:38:33 AM »
Looking for some driveshafts I can chop and change the length for my cj-7.   They are the standard joint size and a single joint both ends.

Anyone have some?   I want to have spares.

I also remembered, it has spicer yokes and the longest travel spicer slip joint i could get at the time. that length might be a direct bolt in for the cj, i'm not sure the cjs joint sizes though. it does not have the double cardan though. Its in perfect shape balanced and ready to bolt up with u joints installed.

Thanks tony I'll try and measure it up tonight and get the size (I was just assuming I would need to change the length but maybe not).

there is really no reason to run the double cardan in the front unless for some reason your transfer case has that style yoke.

I'm going to add my $.02.

My NP205 has 1330 size joints, with the same yokes front and rear.  I use an F350 double cardan shaft in the front and and cobbled together custom/YJ shaft in the rear with just 2 u-joints.  The front uses the standard double cardan bolts, and the rear uses u-bolts instead of straps.  Personally, I do not think there is much difference between CV yokes, and yokes drilled through for u-bolts.

Mine is a Dana 20 with unbolt style yokes both ends.       I'd like to go dual cardigan in the rear and stay single joints in the front.    So essentially I need 3 driveshafts 1 front 2 rear to make this happen

I didn't know if the YOKES were different or not, thats even better if they are the same and interchangeable. I was referring to the use of the cardan joint in general. I personally hate them and think they are used wrong in a lot of applications unknowingly. I always recommend using a standard joint in any application before resorting to the double cardan.
