steves 86 toyota 4runner
« on: November 12, 2010, 10:18:42 AM »
i told tim last night over at ians that i would post my build over here

this is how i bought it in febuary of 07.  it was a 1986 4runner with 227k on it 22re w56 ifs front with a toy 8in in the rear

needed an fair amount of rust repair but the motor ran great

rebuilt a 1985 toyota solid front axle for it

started  to clean up the frame

ifs coming out

my working conditions at the time  :D

front hanger welded on and more frame refinishing

sitting back on all fours

cut the rear fenders for more clearance

we cut 3.5 in off the body and then sectioned the fender well and rewelded it to the body

made a poop pipe front bumper

im skipping a little bit here but nothing too important,  this was by far my favoret stage of the truck i drove it every where (including rausch) made rear bumper and sliders still open open

here is where the funs stuff starts

custom 61in wms toy front

[/quote]

pinions a little high

temp cut and sleeved tierod

so made a "flat" belly pan yesturday,  the pan is flat but it hangs down 2in below the frame

started out making this crossmember it is .25 wall 2x2 and welded to the frame

then i made this crossmember to go over the driveshaft,  also .25 2x2

it is still possible to get the tcase and tranny out with these welded in its just going to be a [censored]

next i connected the two crossmembers with some 2in angle and made a little sub stucture that bolts in to support the pan

and i will be using this as the pan

3/8 thick peice of poly (basicly a cutting board)

linked the rear

got sick of the [censored] up cage in the front and the mashed panels so i pulled a chad and got the sawsall

got the truck in the garage for a 3 linked front and a new motor

its gettig a new front clip, new front half of the cage, and a new front bumper, going to put in the 3rz finally, and i orderd all the parts to do a front 3link because im sick of the leaves

front axle out

got the frame all cleaned up

the 3rz waiting to go it

spent a couplehours at the shop

got the motor mocked in

new motor mounts

made some frame reinforcment plates

motor is in  :great: it sits about 3/4 of a inch higher than stock

motor mounts

plenty of space in the intake side but the exhaust side is a little tight

frame plates all burned in

front crossmember in

ruffstuff sent me the wrong misalingment spacers so i  had to drill all my 9/16 tabs to 5/8

got all the link brackets mocked up/made

my home made lower mounts

changed my mind again

decidd to move my upper in a few inches closer to the diff

frame mount for upper

mounts all tacked in

all tacked in with temp sch 40 links,  took allot off adjusting but it clears so far.  i have been cycling it all day

i was able to move the lowers out a little more but if i go any farther then the tires are going to rub them

gave up on wiring for a bit

got most of the 3 link done

its really tight on the driver side at full lock but it clears

shock towers done

engine bay shot

ecu hidden away

little bit more loom and im done with wireing

took a couple of nicer daylight pics

started my front bumper tonight too

im going cut the grill and some of the rad support to fit the winch in

put a third coat of paint on everything,  did my front brakes and started the winch mount

and just incase any one didnt notice my new nose and many other parts came off jays old 4runner so it can live on in mine a little

front is sitting a little taller than i would like but i got the front fenders cut

mounted my optima in the back

vids of the motor

and here is the most current project

so i drove down to RI to help a freind get her 69 z28 running again and noticed a pickup sitting in the woods behind her house,  after getting the car running i asked her what was going on with it and she said the have been meaning to junk it for years now and if i want it i can have it

not in any rush but now i have them for down the road  >:D

Did you have to have custom axle shafts made for the widened front?
