did a lot of the metal blow out welding it or was it still pretty thick?

I'm not sure how much better the window is. the top edge of the opening has some rot, sides and bottom are good.

Hey Tony, what is it like welding 1927 steel?  Does it have different ingredients that make it a little more difficult to weld?  I know a lot of older steel doesn't rust as bad as newer metals.  Maybe they added some zinc?  Especially old hinges and farm equipment.  Just wondering if the body was the same.

no it actually welded nicely. .....when i had the gas on.
i forgot to put the gas on on the left rear corner when tacking it and it got real spotty, but once i put the gas on it was great. Where there where huge gaps from my sucky drunk chop job I just backed it with bronze and filled it. that part of the chop is without a doubt a two person job. "hold this, tack that, pull here, weld there"

very cool idea for a project. i've seen a bunch of old cars and trucks while hiking out in the woods. most of them have bullet holes all over the place through

haha yeah those are my drunk friends who helped with the chop, we have a rule while working on this thing. and its pretty simple "you must be drinking"

I believe the first place i bring this thing when its done is to the pits and open up the AR on its ars....thats about the closest i can get to a thompson at the moment.

got the A and B pillar bent up and ready to tack into place.



And the projected plan. i find the dry erase works pretty good for designing the cage.

the red is the main hoops i plan on doing first in order to get the body onto the frame, then the drivetrain susp and everything else goes on before the rest of the bars.

Tony, you need to fine one of those black steel Thermos lunchboxes to go with the build.  You know...like the one I have.

tim funny you mention that, notice on the dry erase....
those are notes of things i need to install. the lunch box I have a good plan for and I think you'll like it.

so when it comes time for me to build the headers I plan on building them "around" a metal lunch box, so I can store food in there and let it heat up from the heat of the headers. It wil be an integral part "of" the headers  what do you think?

no there will be parts of the cage coming through protecting some of the crucial areas but for the most part internal.

-Cut TJ frame down and in half took about 5 inches out of the overall width of the frame.
-mounted A and B pillars for the cage which are also going to be the body mounts for the Tin.
had to be sure that A was straight and square with frame rails so that the doors would be allowed to open and shut. and let me tell you they open and shut better than my YJ doors ever did .

So I have my annual Halloween party this time of year so the buggy had to be moved out of its home and onto my trailer untill post party cleanup. thats the beauty of garage parties is it alwayss leaves me with a nicely cleaned and organized garage to work with afterwards

So instead of the buggy being set aside I used it for a party Prop, it is a pretty big hit!




I can now hang from the bars they are tacked into place
