When you get to heaven may the devil be your judge

« on: April 02, 2009, 03:51:54 PM »

Hello Friends,

If you have yet to have the opertunity to meet me, My Name is John Shelton, some may say i have a little bot of history with New England Jeepz and the offroading community here in New England. As I may have mentioned to a couple of you, I will be participating in the "Tour de Cure" Charity Bicycle ride this summer.  As some of you may know, Gracie, My daughter, is a Type 1 Diabetic, and has been since she about a year old. Having seen her suffer through a lot of hardships over the past couple years, I figured I might as well suffer a little as well, so I will be riding a pedal bike (I would like to emphasize that it is a PEDAL BIKE not a motorcycle) almost 200 miles in hopes of raising funds to aid in diabetes research, and hopefully a cure! I try not to ask too much from my friends, and have never wanted to use this as a person forum but this is something that is very close to mine and my family's heart so I implore you to please help me in my efforts. I know that times are tough and the economy is bad, and that seams to be the time when more people are asking for "donations," if you only give a dollar, that will help a thousand times over.

Thank you so much in advance! If you want to forward this to someone who might be interested in helping, please do not hesitate.

Here is a link to my page, donations can be made here

Thank you!

"almost 200 miles"  Define almost.  When do you start training?
Good Luck!

Thanks everyone!

Yes I have been training, started back in Nov in the Gym on the hampster wheel of a bike. Starting last saturday I get up nice and early and hit the road, I do 20-30 miles. I did 190 mile ride back when I was 16 for the MS society when I found out my uncle had MS.... Other than a mountain bike ride here or there, I have not done much till this year. I will take as many photo's as I can along the way and will share all the spanex free ones here.  Grin

Honestly, thanks to everyone, sincerly, this is something that is very close to my heart, it even brings a tear to my eye when I think about what Gracie goes through and how I am giving up a couple weekend of my time where she basically has given up parts of her life.
Thanks!!!!

Being type 2 diabetic myself I know quite a bit about diabeties.  I feel deeply for her as well as you and your wife.  It is a very tough thing to deal with and can be extremely scarry at times and trying on your nerves with constant worry.  Having Type 2 Diabeties is a walk in the park compared to what she goes through with Type 1.   I hope every one will help the cause because it is a very serious issue that needs greatly to be researched for a cure.

It is really nice to see all of you pull together for a cause like this, especially during these times of economic stress. Yesterday when this was posted here, John was at 0%, this morning it reads 67% - I am pretty sure that almost all of the names on that list are affiliated with this club.

I would like to thank our members and guests, for reminding me how great NEJ is - I am very proud to be a part of this organisation.

Thanks for starting my Friday on the positive.
