What is the other dash light that comes on?
Does the abs kick in on light to moderate braking or jut hard braking?
If the abs light comes it should have a code I would recommend identifying the code first.

is his jeep lifted?
i would first pull the code. ive seen clocksprings be the cause the most. if there is no codes and/or its not the clockspring i would suggest looking at the rear abs sensor wiring. they are held in place on the axle at the control arm brackets, and ive noticed even with a 2" bb, when the axle is droped out they become extremely tight on the clamps that attach them to the bracket. as a preventative message on all the lifted jk's i dealt with at the stealership, i would remove the clips and use loosely attached zip-ties to hold them in aproximately the correct spot but allow them to move under flex/drop out.
