Easy to change?  Never had an oppertunity to do one or see one even in the jeep.  I assume you take the tcase and tranny down on a jack after the skid plate is removed. Any idea how hard it is or do I need special tools.  Can any Jo shmo do a clutch.  Time wise?  Can it be done easy in one day for a newbie.
Also as it is my first clutch removal and install, are there any tips I need before attempting this.

I know Miguel said to be sure to put a new bearing in.  And I plan to do that 4 sure.

Any other ideas for me?

do you have a Chilton's manual ? if not might want to grab one it will give you step by step instructions and torque specs. you may want to pull the flywheel and have it resurfaced, put a new pilot bushing, and throw out bearing. i went to napa and got a loaded clutch kit that came with the above (bushing, bearing, clutch, and alignment tool). it's an easy job but a pain in the ass because you have to remove the tranny, t-case,drive shafts (remember to tape the u-joints so the caps don't come off) and use loc-tight on the clutch bolts

wait for the next question......how do i remove the pilot bushing  Roll Eyes

A lot of guys use grease and a bolt but I use toilet paper it works just as good without the greasy mess. Take a bolt or rod that will fit in the old pilot bushing. Wet some toilet paper and pack the old pilot bushing. Then hammer in the bolt or rod. Most likely you will need to add a bit more paper after each time you pound in the bolt. Always worked for me.

Another method would be to thread a coarse threaded bolt into it and pull on the bolt head or buy the tool for $20.

As Rich mentioned you should purchase a manual if you don’t have one yet.

I use Haynes Manuals and yes I got one of those.  Never liked chiltons as much.  It may gives the step by step but doesn't answer what others know from experience doing it first hand.  All gret info.  Thanks Rich

 Woot! Woot!
Took the CJ for a ride today.  Seemed to shift alot better just sticking a little because the clutch must be really glazed over from overheating it.  I did the routine winterizeing maintenance such as the fuel system and flushed to coolant and put new antifreeze in.  Then backed it into its winter home.  I plan to try and keep it out all winter instead of the garage at Dad in Laws because if given the chance to as I would have to dig it out otherwise.  I would love to put the lockers and axles in ( Wink  Wink)  So for now its covered up to keep the elements, and mostly neighborhood cats out of it.

Anytime after the new year I am ready to schedule that Tech101 guys.  Should make it to RI just fine.
