Trail tools

What do you carry? I feel like most of the time I don't use most of the stuff I bring. Aside from the basics, (sockets, box wrenches, screw drivers) what do you carry?
Lug wrench ?
Chanel locks/pliers/cutters/vice grips ?
BFH ?
Pry bar ?
test light/multimeter ?
crimper ?

Are these designated trail tools? Are they a lower quality then your house/shop tools?

i keep separate but not equal tools in the trail rig.  on some of the weekend events i bring more and keep them in my truck.  there are always some tools that are pretty specific to my rig/axles such as very large snap rig pliars that i now bring.  usually i only add a tool to my trail tool box when i've found i've been without it. 

also extra fluids are also important.

I keep wrenches, vise grips, adjustable wrenches, hose clamps, screwdrivers, zip ties, cutters, u-joint hardware, e-tape, and a few other basics easy to reach in my topside toolbox. Under the seat in a tool bag is pry bars( mostly to fix JDawgs  leaf springs when he inverts them ), bfh, cordless impact, impact sockets, tools to swap an axle shaft, spare belts. And a bunch of other stuff I rarely use on the trail. In my console are spare bump stops, spare hubs, spare u-joints. One of my best tools is my powertank. I can't imagine being without it, its saved the day many times.

in my black jeep I brought a small 3 drawer top box, now I bring less. I do have spare axles, drive shafts, various electronics, hubs and fuel pump, but don't carry it all. just seems like too much. most of the time I figure if I break a shaft I just put it on the trailer. lol I'm trying to figure out what basic stuff I need and where to put it in the new cj. I do carry a tire plug kit that is awesome! except my B.F.Gs keep getting sidewall cuts. :/ I did recently change all my lugs as well as the spare lugs to the same 3/4" size. they were like 3 different sizes, witch was a pain. all the trail tools are the same quality as my shop. I have a first aid kit, I think its in the camper. Oh and I need to get a fire extinguisher!

drive shafts and fuses and some relays might be the only spares i carry in the rig.

Trails in New England are short in distance so it doesn't take long to get back to my truck. I leave the majority of my tools in the truck. We have at least 3 to 4 CJ's on any club run so I know there will be some basic tools out on the trail for repairs (read standard), as an alternative I carry diagnostic tools, multi-meter, engine analyzer, inline spark tester, electrical tape, etc, Also first aid kit, fire extinguisher, fluids, belts, drain pan, spill absorption pads, etc.

I was fortunate to make 100% of the club's runs this year, and the CJ never broke. At gremlin graveyard Matt loaned me a T-20 to adjust my TB idle, Timmy a floor jack, and Ian a impact gun to install my spare after a valve stem ripped at Swanzey (thanks!).

90% of my hand tools that I carry in my jeep are harbor freight special. My impacts are crapsman. I leave my snap on tools in my shop where they belong.

Good stuff. I picked up some "designated trail rig tools" today at the Hoe Depot. I had a GC and a 15% off coupon so out of pocket was only $50. I'll add some zip ties. electrical tape, & test light. And since you guys have all that other stuff I should be all set.

I'd give everything a misting of WD40 before it goes in the bag.

I also picked up an Action packer. I'll probably leave everything in that.

I know ill be keeping some spare wire in my trail bag from now on.....zip ties, ratchet straps and electrical tape are also on my must have list.

I like that action packer Jay....I need to come up with some method to keep it all in the Jeep. Bungies are a pain in the ass....

Swag off road makes a mount for them, but its $170. Which seems steep to me. I'm sure it's a good product but not worth the loot to me. I'll stick with tie downs and bungies for now I guess see how that goes. I thought about just taking a flat piece of plate and drilling it out then putting it on the bottom of the tote and bolting it into the rig. Not sure I want it to be that permanent though.
