Trailer deck maintenance
« on: November 17, 2015, 02:19:26 PM »
Hey guys, I'm still new to this forum so move thread to the appropriate section if needed...
What is everybody using to protect their trailer decks? My deck is PT and in good condition. I just power washed it and was thinking now is the time to do something to make it last.
I'm thinking of Thompsons Water Seal, Deck stain or maybe the Deckrestore type products.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Matt

when i had a wooden deck on my trailer i used a combination of diesel and used motor oil. very old school as recommended by my old school grandfather.  i only have a metal deck now so i haven't  treated a wood deck in a while.

Ian's Grandfather is a knowledgeable guy.
I'm assuming your PT wood is at least 6 months old, if it isn't I'd wait until spring.
Clear is easiest, just spray it on and your done, but it won't last more then a year, year and a half.
Semi solids will last 3-4 years if prepared properly.
Your tires will never get hot enough to damage the seal
Personally, I have a metal deck.

I thought about the old school used motor oil trick, but I often have coolers and camping gear on it for weekend trips. I'm leaning towards a good deck stain..

Nope, it's a Fulton vise.
It's never been in the way and it hasn't been used much but it's handy to have when you need one.

Decent quality vise, early 20s, made in NY.
The Fulton brand was an early low priced tool line offered by Sears as well.
