my old cherokee
« on: September 29, 2014, 03:44:03 PM »
Rich's waggy thread reminded me that I should get this up.

Some of you will remember this one.  It was rear ended a couple years ago.  I've kept it for parts, but havent used much off of it.  Just a long side front axle shaft and the steering shaft.  I figure I better try to get rid of it before the snow flies.

The engine has ~220k on it (still had great oil pressure), and the trans works but needs an input seal I believe.  The t-case is a 231.  There are JCR rock rails on it too.

Has a new radiator and starter.  $300.  If no one takes it I will pull some parts off and scrap the thing.

Not bad.  Is 170 the "going rate" for scrap?

Ideally I'd like to see it go to someone who could use the parts.  It still has a lot of good ones left on it, and I would hate to see them crushed.  :-[

I will probably end up pulling some of the good stuff off and junking the rest.

Yes, it will drive.  Needs a battery though.  Can't go far because I robbed the steering shaft.  ::)

Has one, but that will be one of the parts I will be keeping if I end up scrapping it.

one thing I always had in the back of my mind was taking a xj then taking everything that was not needed to make it run and drive and get rid of it making it as light as possible( no body panel glass ect...) with lots of cutting and just enough lift to clear a set of q's add a cage and wheel the crap out of it

I've already done that.... ;D

But I don't think it's "as light as possible".

With this XJ, the "frame" is smashed.  The leaf springs are kinked and would need to be repaired.  If you want to buy it and make it a wheeler, then be my guest.

Top.

I called a few junkyards around me, and the most anyone was willing to offer was $200 if I deliver.

I would like to move this before winter really starts.
