I know Karate, Kung-Fu + 47 other dangerous words!

« on: December 20, 2010, 11:53:49 AM »

Ok, so i need some help and I've never done this before so I'm willing to ask.  How hard is it to change a wheel bearing?  My 06 Saturns bearings are shot (had a mechanic look at it becuase I couldn't figure it out) and they need to be replaced.  What tools are required, how hard is it to do myself?  How bad is it if she keeps driving on it for another week or so?  Shoudl I pull an allnighter and get it fixed today?  What parts do I need to buy....just a bearing (http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sku/Saturn/Ion-3/AC_Delco/Wheel_Bearing/2006/Base/4_Cyl_2-dot-4L/ACFW357.html?loc=Front&tlc=Brakes%2C+Suspension+%26+Steering)? Does Crown have any for sale?

Thanks for the responses and be honest if I should just pay the $300 for parts (each wheel) and $400 in labor.

So it looks like it's an entire hub assembly not just the bearings within.

So now the question remains.  Should I save the $30 and buy it online with her driving on it for another couple days or should I replace it tonight?

simple job.....couple hours at most.
Do it yourself Jeff.  Only a few basic tools needed  and you've got them most likely.

I have driven and still am driving on a bad wheel bearing in my durango...been 2000 plus miles.  Tire won3 fall off so just drive it a week and don't sweat it.  But you will were other components faster by doing so .

Piece of cake!!

A little over an hour and it was done fixing all the problems we had in the front end.  I thought I was going to have to repack the hub and what not, but with it being a sealed unit it was simple.

Thanks to everyone.
